Eliminating events....

I am having trouble removing about 4 seconds of silence from the beginning of an audio file. I have read through the HELP pages on editing and I am still stuck. I know this has to be an easy one to answer, so any help is much appreciated :) Thanks in advance ---ROB

P.S. I have CW PRO 8
 
Don't know 'bout CW PRO 8, but in lots of software I've seen you just select the portion of the wave you want to delete, either right click on the portion or click the edit drop down menu, and select cut. Give that a whirl friend!

Tried that. Works in cool edit and others I have used, but NOT in cakewalk. :( sheeeeeeet!! Any other ideas????
 
Wait...brainstorm...get a Sawsall and just cut it out of your monitor while it's on the screen. It won't really work, but it might make you feel better...temporarily?:(
 
Put the cursor where the "silence" that you want to remove ends, and press the S key (or select Split from the Edit menu). The clip is now two clips split where the cursor was. Select the portion you want to remove and hit the Delete key (or select Delete from the Edit menu).
 
AlChuck's method will get rid of the "silence" on the track(s), but I don't think it will actually get rid of the 4 seconds of time (if that makes any sense to you). If what you want is for the audio after the silence to move forward in time to replace the silence, here's what you need to do.

(BTW, these steps are for Sonar - but they're probably the same or very similar in PA8)

1. Select ALL tracks. (I'm assuming the silence you wish to remove is on all of your tracks).
2. Drag the mouse pointer across the Time Ruler to highlight the area you wish to remove.
3. Select Edit -> Cut. You should now get a pop-up menu with several choices about what you wish to cut. Make sure the "Delete Hole" checkbox is selected.

That should remove all audio from the hightlighted area, and move everything after that forward in time to "fill in the hole".
