Any of you guys check this plugin out? I'm in between amps right now and I'm not sure when I'll be able to afford a decent amp. I have the free version which doesn't come with may options.

Here is a link to the plugin.

It's got an embedded player and you can listen to a bunch of guitar tones. I think it sounds killer, but the thing costs around $400 and I think I could find a really bad ass old school combo amp that just needs some new tubes for around the same price if I go pawn shop surfing.

So, I figured I would start a little discussion on what YOU would do if you were in my shoes and needed as much bang for your buck as you could get.

Personally I don't gig anymore so I don't own an amp. The sim's, software, vst's etc that you can get now just don't justify buying an amp and throwing an SM57 in front of it to record good sound.

I know the purists will scream foul, but at my stage of the game, I can load up amplitude or (insert software hear) crank up my monitors or put on some cans and sound like Jimmy Hendrix or (insert favourite artist hear).

Note I said sound like, not play like!

Good point. :D

Would you rather spend $400 on a amp or on software though?

That's not a realistic reply and not helpful at all either :laughings:

I sold most of my gear many years ago when I "grew up". No that I'm old(er) I said I can do whatever the f*** I want so I was going to buy a bunch of gear again, but got into the computer/digital stuff instead. (You know most Les Paul's and Strat's or sold to 50 year old guys with money they didn't have when they were 20!)

Anyway, I kind of settled on both. No amp, just too dam loud and big for the wife's liking. I got a VG-99 so I have outboard sounds/effects and don't use up cpu, but have enough guitar and amp models plus effects to keep me busy. In fact by the time I have explored everything, I will have forgotten most of it and can start over!

As for $400 software, this dam thing was about $1200, but I do like turning knobs and like I said, no cpu overhead when recording!

I don't have that problem as all of my amps came equipped with volume knobs. Also my "wife's liking" is irrelevant when choosing an amp. Wives like to bitch no matter what you're playing through so you might as well enjoy cranking a half stack. :D

I don't have a CPU problem because I have a quad core system and it acts like nothing is happening even when fully loaded. I also have it enclosed inside my desk (of course has air vents) so the noise it does make doesn't really show up unless I have a condenser mic with the preamp turned up all the way.

I have more problems picking up the TV in the other room than the computer :D

Sounds good in theory, but a 1/2 stack with a Hi-Watt at 11 would be my downfall because I would'nt hear her coming up behind me with MY 5 iron!!

Tiger couldn't get away from a 5 iron with an SUV. It would be ironic, lay there bleedin, 1/2 stack feedbackin away!

i had a shot of the eleven rack in a shop recently, i think it was around $899 and was sorely tempting..havent tried the software version though..i guess its just RTAS??

I have no intention of ever owning anything more than a practise amp when it comes to amps regardless of any purists "tone' opinions, the software is close enough for me......I think TH-1 is the bollox but that eleven rack was on a whole different level...

I listened to a lot of the sound samples and they do sound clean as hell. You can rent the full version for $20 for 14 days. Once I have enough stuff to work on I may rent it just to see if it's really worth paying for. I can always apply it to my tracks in destructive mode If I find anything I really like.
