I was about ready to pull the trigger on a fearn unit when a friend of mine brought the electronaut mic preamps to my attention. They are tube pres and use lundahl transformers, however, he will customize the output/input for different transformers if someone wants.Yum...

Thanks for your interest in the M63.
The standard M63 with the Lundahl LL1636 on the input and LL5402 on
the output is $1800. The base configuration is my favorite. The
LL1636 transformers use an amorphous core which sounds amazing to my
ears. One thing to note is that the LL1636 has a maximum input of
-15 dB, so if you're planning on putting some insanely high-output
microphones into the M63, you may need to go with something that can
handle a little more level, like the LL7905.
I usually suggest the base configuration, then if you want to
experiment with other transformers you can simply buy an extra
transformer card at a later date.
I've always found it difficult to describe sonic differences between
one component and another with words... but I will say that Lundahl
transformers are extremely high quality and almost totally
transparent. Some people prefer a little more flavor from their
transformers -- a cheap junky transformer can sound amazing on
certain things. That's why I designed the M63 to accommodate a
variety of transformers.
Jensen also makes excellent transformers. One of the things I intend
to do today is design a few daughter cards for some additional
transformers, including the Jensen JT-115K-E. Do you have any other
transformers in mind?
