i walked into a local music shop the other day and saw an inexpensive shure mic (the 10am i think) it looked just like an sm57, and the shop keeper said it was basically a 57 with a few cheaper components...... am i just gonna be paying for a name? its about quarter of the price of a fifty seven, and i just want to use it for instrument micing..... has anyone had experience with this mic? is it worth my while??? thanks in advance

The Shure SM57 is a cheap mic already... (but it's very effective)....... don't try and skimp by buying the Walmart generic-type version...... it'll WON'T be the same. Period.

I saw it online for $27.99 ......that is one cheap Shure. The SM57 is a tried and true winner for snare drum, bass cabinets, guitar amps, tom toms, etc. The Audix OM2 is another good dynamic for the same applications as the SM57 and about the same price.

I bought a beta green just for when someone wants to borrow a mic.

Ive got some mics so who do they ask whhen they need one? ME and they allways come back with some dammage. So if you buy this one do it for this reason, dont use it It will suck ass.

thanks

yeah you are all right! there is no comprimise for quality gear
