I usually use an LA2A on Bass. I think it works great. I'm more of the hardware kind of guy. I rather be able to twist knobs and pull faders on the fly. However, I do use plug-ins, but only so much. On bass, I usually use a Orban parametric EQ, and sometimes the onboard one depending on what console I'm sitting at, I usually use them on the Neve console we have & the SSL console.

 Damn, you are definitely in a different price bracket than me, god bless. I am looking forward to listening to some of your stuff when I have more time. Me, I'm currently looking for a <$200 solution for bass compression.

I use a Jazz Bass through one of my joemeek half-rack recording channel/compressors...VC3 or MQ3. Great boxes, though. Even the new 3Q is within your budget, though I don't have any experience with the newer models yet. I use them on bass and on my DM Pro kit and love the sound.

Symetrix 501. Get the one with the metal toggle power switch. @$125 or so used. Discontinued so only available used. I have one and bass is all I use it for. I've also got a couple RNCs (no good for bass), a Peavey VC/L-2 (LA2A like optical valve compressor), an Aphex Compellor, and a Drawmer 1968 for compression. Of these, the Symetrix works the best for bass.

The Rumour is great for verbs.
