Use the hpf and keep them the same distance from the snare and you will get good results.

I use mine for room mics when recording drums, with 603s as overheads

No, Rimshot, no battery. The ECM8000 may be an electret condenser. If so, the diaphragm has a more or less permanant static electrical charge. This charge can slowly degrade over a period of some years, like 10 or 20, but I'm not even sure that they are electrets. Somebody on this board will know. I assure you, the Behringers will be just as accurate (and noisy) a year from now as they ever were.-Richie

Thanks for clearing that up Richard. I said I had heard that.
You know that my knowledge of microphones is far from being advanced, so I listen to what others say....and sometimes repeat it (gotta stop doing that). I'm very glad to hear that I can count on these mics in the distant future, because even when I get to the point that I have built a respectable mic cabinet, I think that I will always have use for them. They just work.

There´s a lot more to say about this mics???.

I play drums and a few months ago I started this homerecording thing, I was looking for 2 OH, 2 MXL 603 were my choice, but after all of this.... I´m not so sure. Besides 2 ECM´s for $80!!! I could buy only one 603 for this money.

The room I used to play drums isn´t treated well, there´s a lot of rebound.....I´m almost sure that ECM´s will caught all, am I right??

I have a cheap-ass plywood nylon string guitar I keep at work for practicing. I think I'll bring it home and record some of my shitty classical licks on it with my ECM 8000 in my boxey room through my harsh Behringer mixer pres into my noisey Soundblaster Live that I normally only use for MIDI. Chess, would you like to hear that?:D

Ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

Maybe I'll even sing.:D

Wow. Way to sell a concept!;)

Hi TamaSabian,
I am admittedly not THAT knowledgable about mics, but I will tell you what I do know.
The ECM8000 were designed to be room measurement mics. They are extremely sensitive omnis. So they will tell you how good or how bad the room you are recording in is. If you have a good room that is isolated or a room that gives a certain desired character to your instruent, these mics will pick that up. If you need mics that concentrate on the instrument, you want cardoid or even hyper-cardoid mics. From what you've said, the Behringer omnis may not be good for you. If you have extra funds tho, they are certainly worth getting because they definitely have their uses. You might want to consider treating your room anyway, because even with exceptionally concentrated mics, a bad room is going to make them sound like garbage.
And to answer your question, yes the ECM8000 will pick up all of the sound in a room, including your next door neighbor flushing the toilet. You'll need some isolation.
