IDK, that could be I guess, I never considered that. Nobody else's auctions have pics where the mics look so light, and all this seller's completed 'new sm57' auctions went for about $64 on avg, which is pretty low. Maybe they're spooked by the weird pic too,
I'd call that one a fake, but in terms of the colour I think its just the lighting. I've seen definitely-genuine SM57s look that colour before - just imagine seeing the world through the eyes of a bad cameraphone!
I don't think there's such thing as a switched SM57 (apart from fake ones). The switched 58's are quite uncommon, which is probably why the faker's aren't so good at faking them (but at the same time people don't know how to spot a fake).
Send the fella a question and see what his response is. I bought 6 a few years back for a buck and a quarter. 4 of them had road rash pretty good, but worked perfectly. Those things are bullet proof.
I believe you can get the 57 and 58 switched or no switch.
