I am not sure this is the right place for this question or not, but anyway
I see most of the pro mastering/ Editing studio setup has dual computer monitors (LCD or CRT) I know that some video cards support dual monitors and it would be easy to work with a wide view console etc. Is there any other use for dual monitors other than more viewing space?

Simply put, computer monitor real estate is worth more than ad time during the superbowl. You need only to use a mutimonitor system for a few minutes to understand how much faster and easier it is to work with. Taking it a step further, even Windows 98 will support up to 4 monitors without any special hardware (just standard video cards).

It is very nice! Having your tracks on one screen and your mixer on the other rules!

I made and upload a screenshot of my 3 monitors setup. I've been with 2 monitors for a few years, and about 6 month ago, I bought a 3rd one! Dont ask me to work with only one monitor now, I WONT!!

I'm 100% your wont regret using a 2 monitors setup.

Thanx Hawking, Scott and Kryogh, I made up my mind to go for dual setup. (I am almost on my way to get another) I am running Win2000 pro and sonar 2.2xl. I have a radeon 7000 video card right now Could someone suggest another video card capable of doing this? If so please explain how to do the Kryogh kind of setup, to view different views (track/console) Thank you in advance.

oh dude... I forgot to mention that Win2k generally SUCKS for multiple monitors setup. Hard to explain because my english sucks too.. :(

Instead of 2 monitors, Win2k will see it as 1 big monitor. So each time a window will come up, it will be in the middle of both screen. So you will have to move the window each time. Uh..is this clear? I hope you will understand :|

Oh, maybe you will understand what I mean this way: Your taskbar wont be only on the primary monitor, it will be a loooong taskbar which the "start" menu will be onthe 1st monitor, and the "hour" will be on the second one.

got it?

This is true but it really isn't a big deal. Just move whatever window you want on whatever monitor..

But because of the size of the "one big screen" the refresh-rate will be limited to around 60 Hz (for most cards), and that sucks! :(

WinXP is the master of dual/tripple-monitor setups! :)

WoW! great response, I do have Win XP but liek scott I am also scared of XP, had some troubles with it so I do my recordings in Win2000pro. Too bad to hear that Win2000 ain't good for dual monitors. Anyway I'll wait and get one of those long flat monitors sometime later. Thanx guys.

all the above are good reasons to buy Mac - hook them up and go

I'm constantly adding and removing hardware in my pc and I have no problems with that!

XP still rocks :)

For a dual monitor setup, one of those Matrox dualhead videocards is probably the best choice.
I love my G400.

dual monitors

hi
I use 4 monitors for mastering and mutli tracks and they are really kicking saves me a forune by the end of the week not open and closing windows is a masive bonus. With multi track projects as well or masterign comparisons you van get an application called ultra mon and it coustomises your task bar its really kewl for managine multiple desk tops. I use 2 21 philips on the bottom and 2 19 flats on the top. I spread all the windows out on all the moniotrs mutli track on one mixer on the other effects racks and trimmers across the top 2 and video privew on the last one(if Im doing film or add music or whatever)

email me ill sedn you a few pictures of my monitor set up
beleive me you will never go back to using one monitor

Hi, Enforcer.

Welcome aboard- good chatting with you last night.

You don't have an email address posted, but I'd like to see your setup. You can attach files to posts here, though the smaller the file the better. A full size photo would be silly.

Take care,
Chris

I use a Radeon 9000 with Win 98SE for my dual monitor setup. ;)

You simply won't regret it........ :D

Agreed. XP makes multi-monitoring a breeze.

MMmmmm......flat screens...........
