Dual Monitor Setup.

God i can't wait for the price of LCD's to come down a bit more and the refresh rates to get better. When they get a bit lower they'll be just as good as CRT for fast motion stuff like games with streaking.

Is it refresh rates i'm thinking about? The lower the number the better in this case, the new ones that have 20, or is it 22, are the best.

Typical ones are around 30.

something per second maybe.

Refresh rate

My both 19" CRT are at 85 Hz and my 15" LCD is at 75 Hz.

I'm not sure of this is what your talking about, maybe I misunderstood your question Ambi :|

Great tips guys, esp I liked taht ultra mon software that lets you do all the desktop adv features. Thanx Enforcer. One more question, to connect two monitors I can use a dual monitor video card, what should I do for using more than two momitors? 3 or 4...??? Should I use two video cards?

GeForce4 ti4600

anyone know where and which adapter I need to hook up 2 CRTS to this vid card?
it's got 1 VGA out and a DVI out (looks like a female end, white), and I need an adapter from the DVI out to CRT's male end.

3 or more

I use
a geforce 4 dual monitor agp and 2 pci geforce 2's that way you only need one detonator driver to run the whole lot other wise you got to install multiple drivers and things can get thicky espcally if you using 3 or 4 8 in 8 out cards let em know if you need anything else

Enforcer,

yeah, if you can post a link to your webpage, that will be really cool.

For a dual monitor setup, one of those Matrox dualhead videocards is probably the best choice.
I love my G400.

And I love my Millenium G450.

So how would you have 4 monitors?
Two of those matrox dual heads?

That should work, although I would do some research and see if there are any conflicts using (2) cards. There shouldn't be though.

You can stuff as man y cards as you have slots in 2k or xp. I believe at work I had 6 at one time. That was a little silly. Never had the problems you were talking about in 2k...I guess it depends on the card but the task bar was only on the primary..not streched across. Never seen that happen.

Along those lines, I work at an ISP and we actually have 2 machines with 8 monitors on each one (16 total) along one wall for network monitoring all in win2000. Keep in mind that in the control panel screen you can drag and drop the correct placement of your monitor. So in a normal situation (i'll use a 3 mon. example), you would place them either (2)-(1)-(3) or (3)-(1)-(2) so that your normal desktop is in the center.

Wow, I feel like an idiot now to have just one monitor in front of me, Well by next week, I'll get another big one good enough to work with. Thanx guys.

well, this thread finally convinced me that I need a dual monitor setup, too. Just bought a second 17" flat-panel monitor and an NVidia Gforce FX 5200 video card. I can't believe what a difference a dual monitor setup makes -- its awesome having the tracks on one display and the mixer/fx on the other. Installation under Win XP is a piece of cake, too.

I love duals too, but *really* want them to be identical screens, being LCD or CRT, it doesn't matter, but right now it's a 19" CRT (1280x1024) and a 15" LCD (800x600) and the different screen sizes make me quite nuts.

I want two 19" LCDs at 1600x1200 ! :D
