Both of the replies given are right. It just depends on the type of music you are recording.
If your doing a rock track, mic kick, snare and one over head. Because you'll want the close mic energy and tonne on the snare.
If your doing jazz, or something more acoustic, use two overheads for a good stereo tone, and blend of the whole kit. And one kick mic for the low end.
But experiment with combinations and placement. And have fun
