Did some drum recording with a friend yesterday and experimented with some different mics and positions to the ones I normally use. Just wondering what you guys thought of the sound in this, mainly the tone of the cymbals (I'll probably end up triggering samples for the kick and snare anyway)...

(high-quality youtube vid)

Very little processing done - HPF'd [nearly] everything and got some light compression on a few things to bring them under control. The snare sound needed some tweaking but I didn't have time to tinker so I just replaced it with a sample for now. Might go back and look at that later, or I might just keep the sample - doesn't sound too bad :).

Mic list is in the video info.

The only thing that jumps out at me listening back is the second crash which we dampened with some tape (was washing over everything) now seems too damp. It sounds good in some of the strong single hits, but at points where he sits on it for a bit it seems lost and weak compared to the out-front sound of the other crash.

Any ideas for when we go back to finish the job?
Thanks!

(and just for fun, here's some of the actual tracking session... http://urls.yoto.co.uk/24/ :) )
