Does anyone know of any websites that show the basics of writing drum loops?

I've got fruity loops, but any loops i write in it sound so cheesy. I know this is somehting that you really should just "know" -- but if anyone has any pointers on writing drum patterns (for all styles) i'd be eternally gratefull.

thanks,

learn to add reverbs, compressors and delays in ways that will help you.

There's a critical, yet often overlooked, feature of Fruity Loops that'll help immensely in making your beats sound more "natural." I believe it's under Graph Edit (not sure at the moment, don't have Floops installed on this computer), the thing where you have pan, volume, cutoff, etc... The last one (to the right) is shift. This allows precise positioning of your bass drum, hihat, snare, etc.. and will allow you to make your beats have more groove.

In addition to the "shift" feature described, I think FL also has a "swing" or a "shuffle" slider which can help a groove out.

pratt.

that was an amazing link!!! I can already see how drum loops are made. I made a really 'cheesy' rock and roll one, it it sounded 'right'.

I'm amazed...

My estimation of the average drummer has shot up... although i still reckon their intelligence is lacking... or maybe that's because they are deaf!!!!
