I just dropped my SM57 to the ground, should i worry?

It was attached to a mic stand and the stand fell to the ground, (landed on a carpet though). The mic itself hasn't got a single scratch from it, but i thought maybe some of the internal machinery may have been damaged? It's really hard for me to tell cause I'm a noob and wouldn't notice a slight change in the sound quality. I didn't actually see it go to the ground, cause i stood behind the door that knocked the stand over:rolleyes:, so I'm not sure how critical it was(didn't make a slam sound when it hit the carpet though, so can't be that bad).

It may be that I'm over-reacting and being paranoid, but I'm new to microphones and don't know how much they can endure, and I've just recently bought it.

nah, if it hit carpet I'd be shocked if it was damaged.

Anything can happen but, in general, you can drive nails with a 57 and not harm it.
If it had hit hard on concrete it still probably wouldn't have harmed it.
Not that you want to drop it but I wouldn't worry.

Nothing to worry about with at 57... or 58... or pretty much any half-decent dynamic designed for any kind of live use. They're designed to withstand nosedives into stages and can cope with a hell of a lot more than that :)

There are some quite good 'destructive' tests on youtube (many of which have been produced by Shure as marketing, but still) that demonstrate just how durable the mics are, but this on is definitely my favourite...

Christ, I'm pretty sure you're SUPPOSED to drop 57's on the ground. :D

By the way, there are no 'mechanicals' in a microphone. It's all electrical these days!
