Driver braniacs needed...Win 8 64 bit and Code 10

It's the smell..
I recently bought a new computer for my home studio. Previously, I've been running a budget laptop, Win7 with surprising success. Now I have a big boy machine running 64 bit Windows 8, but I cannot get the driver for my Zoom R16 interface to install to save my life!

I can see it in the Hardwre Device Manager, but it has a little triangle with an "!". When I view the driver properties, It says fail Code 10. I uninstalled everything and tried to reload the driver. Same problem. I've got two projects to work on an now no interface.

Any ideas?:confused:

Just ran into this issue with a guy on the Reaper thread. Turns out your problem is a Win8 problem. Driver is installed, but Win audio has to be disabled to get the audio to work.
The quick fix is: Control Alt Delete: Go to Task Manager-> Services: Disable Audiosrv. Reverse to turn system sounds and audio services back on (youtube, videos, etc.) I am sure somebody will have a fix for it soon, but this was a quick down and dirty to get up and running.

Thx. I'll give that a shot when I get home. Now that you mention it, I believe I had all that stuff disabled on my Win 7 system.

No luck.

this has got to be a problem with the driver itself. Something is failing in the installation....probably something to do with Microsoft's driver signature crap. But that's just a wild ass guess at this point. :(

In my prior installation, I disabled everything on the laptop regarding sound management and just used the Zoom for everything. Now I can't get past the driver install. This is pissing me off.:mad:

I just installed 8 and am having no problems at all. I didn't have to disable anything like what one of the other posters was talking about. Do you know how to go into Device Manger and actually install a driver? I didn't have to disable a thing. Of course I use an interface and when my amp is turned on everything goes through my interface. When the amp isn't on YouTube and stuff plays through the regular small computer speakers.
 
You should need driver disk now. You could search on internet.

The recommendation I gave was a hunch. Where it worked was for a device that used ASIO4ALL. Thought it might work in this case.
 
Im just suggesting, same as you DM60. I figure between the two of us he stands about a 99.9% chance of being wrong, but what the heck? You sling enough crap against a wall and eventually some of it will stick! LOL!
 
Win 8 is slow and very new.
I doubt its tested enough.
If it was my machine I would not even look at WIN8. WIN 7 all the way!!!

Are you using the ZOOM R16 as your interface? And yeah, I know how to install from Device manager.

I think it's a crappy driver from ZOOM. Wouldn't be the first one.
 
No, I'm not using a Zoom interface. I'm not an expert by any means, but I wouldn't think you would have to disable anything. That doesn't make sense to me, but when it comes to computers a lot of things don't make sense. LOL! When you do get it up and running I think you'll like it. 8 is actually a little faster than 7 and has more features. Make sure you download a free app off Cnet called Start Menu 8. The difference it makes is like day and night. I talked about it extensively in another thread. Check it out.

Disabling items/services to focus the OS is not uncommon.

In the first case, ASIO4ALL was acting as an ASIO driver and the way Win8 was using the audio, caused a conflict. When a system is focused, there can be conflicts (shouldn't happen, but sometimes it does) and especially on a new released OS, there are numerous untested issues.

On running the app "Start Menu" I caution that this app will take up resources. The Windows 8.1 should be out soon and the primary purpose of that is to resolve the start menu.

I don't have Win8, but a few computers I've seen it on, after a few minutes I could see using how useful the new interface can be. However, the main issue with Win8 is back to the first paragraph of this post. Lots of bells and whistles for a single/primary purpose computer. While it might be cool, it seems like it would take up resources I would rather use else where.
 
Check out my other thread. I already had 8.1 and it does not do what Start Menu 8 does. It attempts to do what the app does, but doesn't do it nearly as well. And the app takes up almost next to nothing when it comes to resources Two members here installed the app yesterday based upon my recommendation, and both have now sang its praise and gave it glowing reviews and two thumbs up. Read the thread I alluded to. It's better than what 8.1 does, and I know because I already had 8.1. I know that sometimes you have to disable things. However, if every thing is running as it should, you shouldn't have to do so. And I'm familiar with ASIO and ASIO4ALL. I'm also familiar with CORE since I also use Apple computers for recording applications. I think he has a driver problem, but I don't think it has anything to do with ASIO or ASIO4ALL drivers. But since I'm not a computer expert by any stretch of the imagination, I wouldn't bet my life on it! LOL! I hope he gets it up and running soon,

Yes, I think you are on the correct track, driver issue. Most of the people here are pretty computer savvy, so I did jump to conclusions here. First question should be: "Did you check to see if you have the latest drivers?"

Hope it is sorted out soon as well. Nothing worse than working on a damn computer instead of using it.

Amen, bruddah!

ZOOM has a reputation for sketchy drivers so it's likely a fatal issue. Their customer service is about zero, so I'm not holding out alot of hope. I'm already looking for another interface if I can't get this up and running soon.
