Solar Power!!
I have the opportunity of having my site hosted on a .com site as opposed to the local OZ site I'm on now. Is there any advantage in being on a US site?? Most of my traffic is from the US.

Got a good deal - US$8 per month for 50meg of space and 250meg of traffic and it's with a mob in OZ so I can pay in OZ dollars.

cheers

John, do you mean a US site as in a site hosted in the United States, or a US site as in a .us domain?

The quality of the host you choose is ultimately more important than its location (it might perform better for those in the US, for instance, but in the real world it really won't make a hell of a difference). The only thing that might be awkward are your payment options, but if you use a CC it won't be a big whoop.

If you're talking about a .us domain, that doesn't "matter" either...although I think that .com is still the easiest for people to remember.

Your prices reflect roughly what I pay for hosting. I get 50Mb space, and $6.95/month, but i have 2.5Gb of bandwidth usage. Maybe your 250Mb was a typo. But these are the guys I host with http://www.digitalspace.net and I've recommended people to them before. They are my second host ever, and with that limited experience I think they are solid and greaet bang for the buck. Plus you can get one MySQL database for free if you ever setup mailing lists or any sort of data collection.

Thanks for the replies :)

Slackmaster 2000 - Thanks for that confirmation - I wasn't sure whether there was any advantage (access wise) in being in the .com domain and being on a US server. I have registered a .com.

kristian - no it wasn't a typo so your deal is way better - thanks

Oh well - if there is no obvious advantage in being on a US server I'll stay where I am. :)

cheers

Like Slack said, I think there might be a slight business advantage in having an easy to remember xyz.com type domain name.

I'm up here in Canada, but all the hosts I find are complete Rip Offs for what I would get up here. It's cheaper for me to host with a US company regardless of the exchange rates. I host with http://www.featureprice.com which is based out of Florida and I notice that my site is faster than my friend's who hosts with the rip off company around the corner from my house...
