Does this deal smell fishy?

You should see how much you can run this guy around. Send him $0.15 western union and then tell him they must have screwed up the decimal point. Tell him you'll send again and then send him $1.50. After that say you refuse to use Western Union because they keep screwing up so you are going to mail him a key to a safe deposit box in Budapesta be sure to mention that there is more than 1500 in the box and he should only remove what he is owed plus travel expenses. Doubt that he will bite but if he does mail him a key and let him take the trip.

Western Union is the giveaway. That sure looks like a scam.

Western Union is a legitimate way to send money, just not for audio gear transactions.

I did a google image search for "Digidesign Control 24" and found the following page:

http://www.tradepoint.ca/RegularItemDetails.aspx?itemId=74743&CategoryId=-1

Then I searched his email:jefftay200@googlemail.com

He posts ads all over the world, for all kinds of music gear: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=jefftay200@googlemail.com&btnG=Google+Search
And found this thread on PSW: http://srforums.prosoundweb.com/index.php/mv/msg/36830/350097/0/

SCAM

"Ok Jeff,
I have some friends that are living in Romania because they are missionaries there. I have called them up last night and they have agreed to pick up the Control 24 in person and pay cash. I think this way is less trouble for the both of us, you dont have to pay shipping and can save some money, and I get the peace of mind of a fair and safe transaction.

I you could send me the contact details in Romania so my friends can go pick it up, that would be great.

Have a nice day,

Mike"

Can't wait to see his reply!

Btw., the picture looks like stolen from a random ebay auction. Noticed that logo in the corner?

My mom owns a pet store, and was telling me about some low priced puppies from Africa. People we're getting screwed left and right... and it was all based on a deal using Western Union.

Something about a loop whole when using Western Union allows them to rip you off and get away with it.

Western Union is not an escrow service, it's just a way for two people who know and/or trust each other to get money from one to another quickly.

No loophole, just bad judgement.

Anatomy of a scam

Talk about timing. Dig this scam I just received in my Inbox. It is so awfully conceived that anybody who falls for this probably deserves to be ripped off:

A few dead giveaways here:

- I received this e-mail *twice* within several seconds of each other.
- This bank in Belfast has a gmail e-mail address? LOL.
- There are two awful and obvious typos, including an entire deleted phrase, which would never show up in an official e-mail about a quarter of a million dollars.
- There is no such thing as a lottery which awards prizes to e-mail addresses only.
And my favorite:

- The SMTP header information on both e-mails traces back to a user named "sorkin" at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Either this user is the perpetrator, or his/her computer has a trojan horse that's generating the fake messages. The university has been notified :).

He never did email back after I told him I knew missionaries in romania that could pick the console up in person.

and my expression of gratitude is as follows.......

FOR TO BE WITH MANY THANKING FOR YOU, AND MOSTLY ENJOYMENT FOR TO BE VERY WELL!
I AM THEREFORE TO BE FOR TO BE GIVING FOR YOU A DoS FOR THE GOING THROUGH THE BICK PROBLEM AND FOR EXTRA GRATITUDES!

I wonder what did happen to Jeff?.........

Hahaha, upone telling him Ill close the deal if he gives me his phone number he wrote

"the linnes are too busy because i have a lott of stuff here and everyone wish to call, that's why i dont give the phone no.think a little.I am a man of my word. You can count on me.About our deal I assume we are 2 mature persons who want to make a fair deal.
I understand you are a little concerned from this point of view but this is not the case.
If i will make with you a good deal, you will recommend me ,maybe ,to your friends or to other persons.please let me know"

Mike

How could the lines be so busy (people calling about so much of his gear for sale) if he never gives out his phone number?
