I have been doing research on DIY mics, both ribbon & condenser types, and it seems that hardly anyone has an interest in it anymore. I was hoping to find some helpful info on building a ribbon mic but most links I have come across so far are dead or deleted. I have worked up a basic plan for one I would like to build and it would great it there was someone who could tell me if I'm headed the right direction or to go with something different.

Any guidence would be greatly appreciated.

with the group buys going on it's hard to get interested diy.

I never let DIY die! I'm in the middle of constructing a mic that is as close as I can ever afford to get to a U47. It has M7 capsule, EF14 tube, Cinemag upgrade transformer for U47. Very close construction on the power supply with extra smoothing for DC and a seperate section for 6.3v filament.

My suggestion is wait for Marik to post. He is a mic GOD and is very into building ribbon mics. Gus is great too, but he won't post here very often.

You could also join the "micbuilders" group at yahoo forums.

Hey all, thanks very much for the info and links. I tried my DIY ribbon last night for the first time with very dissapointing results. I guess I still need some learn more about them for my second try. I'll try to post a pix of it soon. Maybe someone can spot what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks.
