Hey folks...
Back after a brief 6 month pause, and with no studio due to the ex-wife. I have a question about a mic.

Does anyone know what this mic may be?
I just have no idea... I'm a lighting designer!

I've attached a file.

Thanks!

No.. looks like a neumann or Shure though. I see you like Dave Matthews too.

haha, i came first... :D

electrovoice re20. popular on bassdrums and for radio moderators.

ok, i wasn't the first who replied, but the first who knew.... :)

Why this mic?

Well, yes I do like Dave Matthews, but I wonder why they'd choose this mic over a nice Neumann or something like that...?

Any thoughts? What makes this mic a good vocal mic if it's popular for kick drums and such?

apart from the shure sm7 its the most popular mic for radio broadcasting, i guess. it looks like mr. matthews is doing a performance for a radio show in that picture. the re20 is said to be a very very good dynamic mic, i'm sure you'll find tons of info on it if you use the search function of this board.

Yep, that's an EV RE20. It is one of the top 3 dynamic studio mics, the others being Shure SM7B and Sennheiser MD441. There are some by Beyerdynamic and one by Rode which are in the same ball park, but which I am less familiar with. It is used, as stated above for broadcast applications, but is also a favorite for percussion, especially kick drum, and is widely used for vocals.-Richie

You can Juice that puppy up with a strong preamp it'll do anything but windows!!!!!!
I use it on guitar, drums, and vocals. Kinda boomy but lends itself to eq nicely

He has done 2 radio broadcasts this past year; once where he talked for 10 minutes, then played a solo Gravedigger, and then another wher he talked for a few minutes and then played "Save Me (I believe)". It was probably from one of those two broadcasts.... do you know where you got the pic? There's probably info on the page.
