set ur session up so that u can hear ur vocals while they're being recorded thru ur headphones?

one time when i installed cool edit it was set-up like that , but when i lost it, I could never figure out how to get it back that way

You might give a little info about yout setup (soundcard, etc.). Basically, you need to have your output for the track you are arming to record set as the same soundcard you have your phones hooked up to. In the mixing panel software for that card, ensure that the input you are using to record is unmuted. Hope this helps.
