Thing is BrettB, as a student you can buy many student versions of software. These are usually the full version but with manuals on CD-ROM or on the website. But they are usually at least 1/3 the cost--and quite legal. It's been a while, but I think adobe Audition is under $150. For those of you who aren't students, many of you have family members who are--even children. I have two daughters in high school band so, in theory, I could easily buy them student versions of software I need. All legal, moral, and the R & D of the software still getting copywrite payments.

I believe there are restrictions that you may only use student copies for educational use.

On one hand you are right...if you look at it with the tunnel vision you accuse others of having and ignore the bigger picture. It is true that every human that ever existed has been less that 100% honest. On the other, it is a weak, immature, egocentric, and small mind that will use that fact to justify stealing.

Please show me where I ever used it as an excuse for stealing? I simply stated that nobody has a right to JUDGE, based on the fact that everybody "sins". Maybe a "weak, immature, egocentric, small mind" hears what they want to hear instead of what is actually stated.

hey it's fine if you steal the software that you use to make your music... because i'm going to steal the music that you make with it.

Darn. More people are going to be listening to my music? How dare they?

I'm mixed on the subject, however because I like to be legit, I purchased my audio programs: Audition 2.0, and Sound Forge 7.0, and Fruity loops, but not until I downloaded them and tested the product (I'd hate to throw down that much money on something I can't return!). Recently, I purchased Waves Diamond Bundle and have been very happy with it. That was one of the rare instances that I did not test drive the product.

I have downloaded DVD burning software before just because my stock stuff didn't do it, and I was not going to pay $30 for something I would use maybe twice.

I buy all my software. I just always have. My acid pro 3.0 is technically pirated because i didn't know better to register it (first program ever) and sony doesn't seem to want to help me. I have the original cd's though. I just think it's easier. I know so many people who pretty much had to start from scratch when they got a new computer, etc, where i just pull my cd's out. Updates are obviously easy to get. At the same time i have 1/2 the software as most people. But i find that i learn all my programs to the max and really get more out of them than alot of people who just get whatever is "best". I know that if i looked into some programs pretty seriously, i'd try to pirate them before because their demo's suck, but i would buy.

Sony doesn't seem to want to help you after you paid for the program?

hhhmmm....bad support....Well that certainly makes the program worth the money.
...gee, tell me again why people shouldn't pirate?

Well Acid Pro 3.0 isn't a sony product. It is a Sonic Foundry product. They told me i needed to take a picture with everything. I only had the box and the cd's, no manual which the serial was on. Since i didn't register it yet, the just didn't seem to care. It pissed me off, I actually love the product but will never upgrade because of that

It is kinda rediculous reading some of these posts about excuses for costs and starving students.

I bought an Eventide H3000 D/SE when I was 17 in Highschool for over $2600.

I worked for $5.50 per hour for about 32 hours per week. Thats $700 a month. So whats that, four months of saving?

Now last I checked, majority of mommy's and daddy's were paying for school anyway.

I remember going to school full time and working full time because I was driven to get what I wanted.

Mommy and Daddy will pay for school and not for toys so your just gonna sit on yer ass?

How hard is it to buy Cubase or Sonar?

Especially when you have places like Americanmusicalsupply.com who will even let you break it down in 3 to 5 payments.

All that takes is a Visa Check/Debit card which most banks offer standard now a days.

Can we afford 3 payments of $99?

You could probably sell plasma or man juice and cover that cost.

people are really dumb.

only people who make over 25k a year should buy everything.

it's all about moral relativity...is it ok for the poor Indian guy to buy it because he's getting ripped off in his country, yes.

is it ok for the american kid who works 60 hours a week just to pay for basic things like food and shelter to steal, yes.

anyone who says otherwise, is a sheltered piece of sh1t who doesn't know what it's like to be part of the working poor, people who work hard and at the end of the week just barely break even, tell them that they are nothing but thiefs and see what happens to your face, lil b1tch.

I guess it's the same as the guy who can't afford a car, just use a dent puller and be done. Why should he pay, he can't afford it. It doesn't have to be your car, it could be off a dealer lot. Either way, it makes sence right. I mean you can afford it, they cannot, so it just make sence, right

elaborate on how you steal the cars off the lot with a dent puller? what is a dent puller? I thought it was a device to remove dents from your car! I would like to know about this!

also, i meant to say it's ok for the injun guy to get a copy from his friend, or as the uptight would put it "steal" the software, because he's paying exorbitant prices in his country because the government is skum and so are the major companies.

In life, just because you are underprivilaged, doesn't mean you deserve more. When you go to the store to buy a cd player, for example, do you get a discount because of your income? Or what about food?

If your principles were correct, digidesigin would have Protools PE (poverty edition). That you could buy with food stamps. It the same as everything in life, if you can't afford the best, you make do what with what you can afford. There is freeware, sub $50 programs that are an all inclusive program etc.

Now if you want to go jack some software online, go ahead. It's fine with me. Just don't justify it as something you deserve, or make yourself an exception to the rule. Software isn't necessary to sustain life, it's not necessary to understand to have a job, to have a house, etc. If you told me you DL software, it really wouldn't bug me. When you justify it saying you are basically entitled to it because of your situation, i think it's a bit perposterous.

.

ACTUALLY I DO GET DISCOUNTS, FOOD AND OIL FROM CITGO, THANKS HUGO!!1

THAT MY FRIEND, IS EXACTLY HOW SOCIETY SHOULD WORK, IN ALL SERIOUSNESS...IF you don't agree with that, I honestly pity you, actually you seem to think there is actually something wrong with giving foodstamps to people in poverty, you must agree with Bush jr who actually cut foodstamp and other social service funding by the largest amount since the reagan years, in a time of increasing poverty among americans while the rich sit back and get richer thanks to this monkeys tax cuts.

As soon as recording software is as important as food, clothing, and shelter, you'll have a point.

you're obviously not a creative person or a person who appreciates creativity if you don't think the means to record art for future appreciation is a necassity.

Oh, I do, but that doesn't mean everyone is entitled to Cubase and a Wavelabs bundle. And really, not everyone needs it, either, even people who record.
