Do I have talent?

You have to be either so conformed to the contemporary molds of the music scene, OR so weird/different that people buy tickets to your show out of curiosity.
Anywhere in between wont get you success, and I think most of us here on this board are somewhere in between. Not "cool" enough, and at the same time not "different" enough.
I do like your style, keep playing and recording. Do what you love and screw the rest, right?

Mike

Thank you greg for your dislike of my music. Seriouslty. I don't expect everybody to like it, and I shouldn't. It took me a while to figure out what I was asking, and it seemed I asked a question that I can get no answer for. Why? Because it is all subjective to the individual. And as to another post, that I can't remember the name of who wrote, I do find it strange that I was born as me sometimes. It is interesting you said this, because I was thinking about this the other night. It started to but me, because I started thinking, the people you know and don't know are living right now, and doing things you have no idea that they are doing. If you don't have some kind of contact with that person at that moment, in that moment, they don't exist to you, yet they do. It made me angry to have such a complicated (to me) thought like that. It is cool in a way though right? If you had contact with that person whenever, then it could alter your life big time. It is just so cool. How could people think there isn't a God? And I do like music, and the making of it. It is hard sometimes, but I like the end result. What I go for realle, is something that makes ME feel good to listed to. That is what you are hearing. I like nonsence, and I like silly songs. Cool melodies, and all of that. What you hear in my music is what makes me happy. Even if I write a song as an inside joke, that is what you are hearing. And there are some inside jokes. I have always thought, if I like it, there must be some out there who it will effect in the same way that it does me, and I want to reach them. Brighten their day, and cheer them up. That would give me all the satisfaction I could want. And on another note, I think Tiny Tim's talent is though the roof. He is the reason I have a ukulele. Sorry for any spelling errors or typos I have made.

.......................Yes.

I am rather sorry about that. I do kind of tend to get a bit strange it my thoughts sometimes. And, yeah greg. I really didn't take your second comment too well, though I do know what I said sounded weird. I am about to laugh myself to death because of what I said. Man that sounded far out. I wasn't trying to be weird, but that dude just said something that hit on what I was thinking. But really, don't all song writers think a bit strange?

Propman,

Don't worry, most people are weird.
Plus, your stuff is good! Check out Blind Melon's version of Three is the Magic Number if you haven't already.

I don't know. I'm not a songwriter. I just fucking ROCK! :D

Greg, I do like your music BTW. I am listning to panzer man right now, and if it is any indication of what the rest of your music is like, I will be listning to them all. You do rock. See, for some reason, no matter if want to write a rock song or not, I always come up with a weird combination of a ballad and pop song.

Hey man, don't trip. No matter what I do it sounds like it was recorded circa 1979. /shrugs/

I would sign you. Im not even gonna spew some bullshit about the record industry. Your stuff could possibly sell with proper direction.

Jonathon Richman seems to be covering his rent.
Now Greg, we've been through this before! you are a sonmgwriter that rocks or a rocker that writes songs - top fun songs at that!
Propman - don't plan on making a living unless you can front the world, plan on making music. Nick Drake was painfully talented & painfully shy. He was known and feted by a few in his life time & is now, deservedly, a demigod of jazz tinged impressionistic folk. I don't think he made much of a living from his music, he certainly made a death from his life and left a fragile but cherished legacy.
I write calm, reasonable, chug along songs for FUN, actually for sanity, and am in my everyday life so normal that I'm a weird person - just ask my wife.
Give me a cup of strong tea, a nice biscuit or piece of cake, Richard Hell & the Voidoids playing Love Comes In Spurts loud on the stereo, a Discworld novel in may hand and a German Expressionist horror film on the tele & I'm sorted for an hour or so.
Mish, where do I fit in?
In 76/77 I was a bearded, longhaired, flairs wearing college student jumping up & down to the Pistols, Buzzcocks, Lou Reed, Queen and a thousand pub rock bands.

It reminds me a little of Fountains of Wayne and I really love there stuff. If you just know Staceys Mom you dont really know the band at all.

Thanks man. Yeah most of my original stuff is all pretty similar. Maybe it's your influences that steer you towards lighter stuff. Run with what ya got. There's nothing wrong with being true to yourself. Everyone should. Most of my influences are loud and fast without a lot to say, so that's how my stuff comes out. I couldn't write what you write even if I wanted to.

Thank you for saying so. I wish you were a record label. And yeah, all I have heard is the song you mentioned. But I liked it. Unless, did they write that song that was something like she's still stuck in 1985?

Most of my stuff is only popular with my family. There are a couple songs I did that someone liked.

And there was one that was really good and a lot of people liked.

But I don't care. I am doing this because I like it. It makes me happy. That's all that counts, and that's all that should count.
