Hi, I'm new here, and I hope you can help me. I recently bought a Fostex X-34 (4-tracks, cassette) but had to return it to the store after only two days because of a lot of flutter and the tape changed speed. Anyway, I am going to buy another recorder instead, and at the store they had just received a used MDT8 in good condition which I have been offered to buy to the same price as the X-34. The MDT8 has 25 minutes of recording time, and I am very tempted by the 8 tracks and the better sound quality.
I am just wondering, is it a good recorder? It was one of the first hard disk recorders i believe? What extra equipment do I need to save backup files over to my computer? (I have both an iMac DV and a PC).
I would be very grateful for some opinions and advice.
 
The DMT8 Is a good recorder..The good thing about it is the recoder section is easy to use !
And the mixer section is very simple to operate{no menues to scroll thru } The board is not that great ...But you can always get a better board later ...Man I'm starting to rammble LOL..Basicly it works well and its easy to use .....dondottcomm
 
Thank you for your reply. I'm glad to hear it is easy to use, since I have no experience what so ever of these things. I think I have made up my mind about buying it. (My alternative is to pay more for a cassette 4-track, and that seems a bit stupid).
 
The dmt8 is a great machine. If you can handle a screwdriver you can Install a larger hard drive. just plug in a few cables and go. You will then have several hours of recording time. Any computer nerd would be able to help you do this in a few minutes.

When you fill up the hard drive, mix down your songs to another recorder, (Minidisk, cd etc,) then erase and re-use the space.
