ahhhhhhhhhhhh, gotcha

lemme run this guy through ozone and see what i can come up with!

The file you attempted to upload is not recognized as an mp3 file
Please upload only mp3 files. Type attempted: application/octet-stream

i got this after trying to post both a 320 and then 192kb mp3...does it need to be at 128?

No, it will take any bit rate. Are you using IE? Are you behind a firewall?

ahh...firewall. one of those things i forget is there, cause, you know..it's just there. lol.

edit: i killed the firewall, and still nothing. boo!

A home firewall should be fine. You are using Internet explorer?

I once had this trouble when I converted to an MP3 Pro, instead of just a standard MP3. What program do you use to convert to an MP3?

A)yes, i'm using IE, v. 6.0.somethingorother

B)i'm using plain old ghetto musicmatch jukebox to convert from wav to mp3...mainly because i assumed that a common program like that wouldn't have issues

=/

I decided to do my "What the F@#&$^&^" version. Rather than attempt to master this sanely, I applied my patented "Pow" filter. Well, not patented, but... still pretty wacko.

Instead of doing compression by the usual mechanism, with delays and stuff, it does compression by raising the input level to a particular power. Numbers less than 1 will result in compression. Numbers greater than 1 will result in expansion.

It sounds fairly reasonable between about 0.95 and 1.2. This short sample was done at x^0.59. :D

Sounds about right to me. :cool:

I have no idea what this means:

I'd like to see more of this "Master My Song" stuff. It's good exersize for the ears.

A+ thread!

I have no idea what this means:

By "delays and stuff", I meant that there's no threshold, no attack delay, and no release lag. There's also not a fixed ratio because the ratio gets exponentially larger the closer the input gets to the threshold. It's kind of like a very, very soft knee compressor curve with an attack of 0, a release of 0, and a threshold of 0... except that the soft curve can vary from a very soft knee compression to a very soft knee expansion, with 1 being linear, and your control is over the exponential curve itself.

Oh, and technically, it increases faster than linearly for small values, unlike any compressor I've seen, so it behaves like an expander and a limiter combined, really, with the rate of expansion tied somewhat proportionally to the hardness of the limiter.

To simplify the math, if I had set it to exactly .50, I would have been taking the square root of the input signal (or -sqrt(abs(input)) for negative input values). At .57, it's a little less extreme than that, but not much. Plot a square root curve from 0 to 1 and you'll understand what's happening to the signal....

For any input value x and parameter setting k:

output = abs(x)^k for positive x
output = -abs(x)^k for negative x

Cheers.

Do I need new monitors ?

This is my mix, please bare in mind that I have not done anything like this for a long,long, time. I would be greatful for your comments.
Do I need new monitors ?
I only blew the dust off them last week. :)

:eek: :eek: Yowza! :eek: :eek:

I'm likin' it! A bunch of bottom in there...the chorus stuff is tasty! I'm starting to "feel" the singer's pain.

That's one KICK-ASS mix. NICE!!!!

Thanks punkin, I am in the process of setting up a home studio again.
I just wanted to see if I could still cut the mustard.
Its been a long time, my gear is as nackered as I am, but we dont give up :)
