Distortions!

Hi,

I've recorded a song from my keyboard onto Cakewalk and exported it to an MP3. When I hear it on my computer it sounds fine and at some points gets a LITTLE distorted. But when I go to the other computers in my house and listen to it on their spekears, it's more distorted than it was on my speakers or it was distorted throughout the entire MP3. How do I prevent distortion from ALL speakers and yet keep a good volume?

if you have some money you can invest in some monitors that will giev you more of the "real sound" of what you're producing...
 
I have a pair of monitors in my home studio and they are Roland MA-8 or something like that...I get "the real" sound or close to it out of those monitors and "the real" sound or close to it out of the speakers that came with my computer. However, why is it that other speakers have distortion...how can I prevent distortion on other people's speakers?
 
...a couple of more basic things...

1. Make sure the other computers in your house have the volume set correctly. i.e., make sure a regular WAV sounds good on them. If the levels are cranked, it'll all sound like schmutz.

2. If that is the case, check to see that your using a common codec for encoding your MP3. There are different ones, and there may be some MP3 player confusion depending on how they were encoded. Make sure you're encoding at at least 192kbps (128kbps can sound crappy, depending on the encoder).
 
Hey how good are those roland monitors?? I'm looking forward to buy some monitors for my setup, and I was impressed o how cheap they are!! do you feel like a big difference mixing with those monitors??
 
I have the same Rolands in my studio, too. For the money, you can't beat 'em. My only major complaint is that they can't get as loud as I'd like. Obviously, they're not as good as a high-end $500 set of bi-amped pro studio monitors, but they seem to be surprisingly accurate, and I'd have to say they're the best by far in their price range (from what I've looked at, anyway).
