Distortion/Crackling in the Right Channel Only???

So I'm running Cool Edit Pro 2.1 on a new macbook and for some reason the Right Channel keeps picking up some distortion or crackling.

What's wierd about it is that you can only hear it slightly when playback plays it inside cool edit, but after mix down it's REALLY audible.

I noticed it starting to happen after I began to use High Hiss Removal and the Parametric EQ with highs softener, but I have no idea what that would have to do with it.

The crackling can't be removed with eq or noise removal.

Any ideas of what this could be or how to get rid of it?

I tried changing the buffer size and nothing worked. I changed the buffer size in Settings under the Multitrack tab and the system tab to 4/6/8/ and 12 and it made no difference on the crackling.

I'm really starting to think that it's from the high hiss removal, but I only hear it in the right channel and high hiss removal doesn't apply to left or right channels individually.

Any other possibilities?
 
Do you use high-hiss removal in real time?
Try to turn it off, just to eliminate that possibilty...

What sort of input are you plugging it into? This used to happen to me a lot when I used the mic input because most of them are mono inputs, and trying to feed it a stereo signal just confuses it.

If you have a stereo line-in, try using that. I don't know that laptops really have a lot of audio input options though :S
 
Honestly, it does sound like a connection issue. I'm thinking it's a bad cable.
 
Yeah I'm plugging into a mono input in the laptop and just copying and pasting the mono signal to the other stereo channel.

The sound source I have that makes the crackling is a Roland Sh-201 synth, which sends out a mono signal.

I don't think it's that my cable's bad, because I used the same set up for a different project later and it came out OK with no crackling.

Is it possible to post the mixdown with the crackling to see if you guys can hear the problem better?
 
man i dont even know. so, your saying it only happens when you use the Roland? im not sure if i was reading that right. but the best bet is to try using a friends computer who has Cooledit and use all your gear. if it still does it then you know its your gear, keep going through your gear and cables until you find out what thing is actually making the noise.
