Has anyone else noticed that the mic pres on lots of the newer digital mixers are really dead sounding???? I was listening to some DATs that I did on an old AudioCentron board and then on an 01V and thought that the AC pres were much fatter and warmer sounding. The overall sound was more robust. (Eventhough the AC pres probably suck anyway)

That's why I've never really looked into digital boards. I'm sure there are some nice sounding pres in the digital boards which most likely start at 5Xs more than a house, but... And even then, I think I'd still go after a analog board. Or maybe split the money and buy one of each. You know... For versetility.

Yeah, Im still planning on getting a nice 8bus console, like a soundcraft or somethin'. This way Ill have more outputs for tracking and it looks cool ;)

The digital mixers have lots of other features though. Like ADAT out, linking, dynamics, effects and really nice routing capabilities!

And the cheap one's usually have very bad dithering schemes too.... :) And terrible internal processing..... :) And the mic pre's are more of an after thought....You definately get what you pay for here....Maybe at $100k you get into a decent digital console....

So who's gonna mortgage the house? Who has a house to mortgage? Not me... Mom does though.

Seriously though, I am in an analog/digital situation now. My power supply for the relays on my analog board is out for repairs and I am in the middle of a project. The good thing is that I am still able to route signals from a mic to my PC though it. The downside is that I can't mix down through that board, so I borrowed a digital mixer from a friend for the mixdown. I think it will work out fine.

I disagree guys. I think my DA7 preamps sound at least as good as any analog mixers in its $4-5k price range. You can't really compare it to analog OR digital mixers costing 5x as much, though. Even at it's low price I consider the DA7 to be a very decent console. No need to mortgage the house! :)

My friggin digital mixer confuses me sometimes cause I cant always tell which effects are on or off or which dynamics are on or off!!!!!!!! Then I go to record something and wonder "What the hell is that ??!??!" and its massive amounts of reverb that I was playin with the night before, but didnt know was even on! I like the 01v though overall...its soon to be used for mixing down purposes, after I get my Mackie 24-8
