Well first of all im new to the forum and recording in general, i got a digi002 (mixer version) and i have been recording my band with it, but i find the 4 preamps on the 002 lacking, in other words i dont like them, so i was wondering if there is possible to add other preamps through the 002 preamps.

I know there is no way to bypass the 002 preamps.
Or should i just buy a channel strip and connect it through the adat on the 002 to get more input.

Thanks and happy new year

Hey man. Been where you've been, but for a different reason. I needed more channels for recording my band.

I use the focusrite ocopre via adat to add 8 more channels of I/O to the digi002.

I do know that if you hook up a channel strip to the dig002 via line level input, you are still accessing the digi002's a/d converters, and if that is what you find unpleasant you are still out of luck, however if you access the digi002 via adat, (As I do in my case with the octopre) you will be using that external piece of hardware for everything; preamp AND a/d conversion.

If you really dislike the sound of the digi002's preamps, you can go either of the above 2 routes to add 'different' color to your sound; adat or line level input.

if using channels 1 through 4 into the digi002 from the preamp, set the digi002 gain knob at zero or unity gain or you may distort... use the external preamp for all volume settings..

I hope this helps.

Here's a thought: I think we should pressure some attorneys general to declare that it is fraudulent/deceptive advertising to advertise a padded input as a line level input. We need to nip that practice in the bud. It's poor hardware design that results in inferior recordings, and as a customer, there's no good way for you to find out that you're getting screwed until after you've purchased the thing. At the very least, there should be mandatory labeling here....
