Along with mastering Ive been looking at software for recording. Ive only seen an advertisement for the new Digi001 audio/MIDI hardware and software package and Im curiose what other people may think of it. I dont have clue one as for the price range.

It has Pro tools software a PCI card and a 24 bit I/O rackmount box with lots of features. Any comments?

Hey Dan, I attended the Digi 001 demo at Guitar center. Pretty impressive stuff! Its ProTools LE that comes bundled which is about 99% of Pro Tools. 24 tracks is the maximum it can handle but the bad news is it won't be avalible for the PC until sometime after March. Cost is around $1000.00 Its avalible for the Mac now.

Thats not bad news for me. Itll probly be months till I can afford it if I choose to buy it. I figured itd be around 1000. It looks like pretty impressive equipment.

How many I/O does the rackmount box have? Can it record at 96kHz?

I'm not shure but i think 8(two of them are XLR) and yes, but don't take my word for it.

Concerning I/O, the digi001 has two XLR inputs on the front of the breakout box. The cool thing about is that these XLR inputs each have separate gain controls and phantom power right on the box. Beyond that it has 4 analog 1/4 ins and 6 analog 1/4 outs. It also has midi I/O, SPDIF I/O and maybe some more stuff. That protools v.5.0 LE software is wicked bad too. You can upgrade to the full blown version too and digidesign will give you credit for the LE version. You'll still have to win the lottery to be able to afford protools though.

Hey, is that card that comes with a sound card or just like an interface card to send the tracks to your hard drive while you still need another sound card to listen?

I thought the Digi001 interface had 8 analog in and outs, but I could be wrong. The card is an interface card, but you don't need another sound card, you can just route the output back through the Digi001 hardware interface. I ordered the video, it's completely free, from the digi001 website and it came in about a week. It does a great job of showing what this thing can do if you can't get to a live demo. The whole package really looks incredible, and I'm just waiting for the PC version to show up. I had heard ProTools LE was good, but when I saw the video demo I was blown away by what it could do.

What I mean by this is can you route output from other recording programs through the card that comes with, or do you need a seperate sound card.
