Hello! I'm not new to homerec, but i am new to this part of the forum. My production company just recently recieved an Digi 003 with PT LE 8 and are entirely new to PT. We are using a computer(not mac) with Vista installed. I installed the PT software and hardware as indicated by the directions. The problem is Vista doesn't recognize the digi 003 as an overall soundcard. What i mean by that is, all computer audio is not running thru this card. Just dedicated audio applications(PT, Sonar, Acid, FL Studio, etc). Besides that, we cannot hear anything from the analog inputs unless they are selected to be recorded in PT. Is that how it is supposed to be? We previously had a roland ua-25 and all we had to do was hook the keyboard/mic in the inputs and we could hear it instantly without even having to open Sonar. I must be missing something monitoring wise. Basically, while sequencing a song on our Triton/etc before the tracking process, we want to be able to monitor all the analog inputs of the digi 003 simutanelousy (We have several different pieces of gear hooked up to it that are midi'd together) without having to setup to record in PT or Sonar or whatever software we use. Is this possible? Here is how i have it setup. Keyboards/mic going into the analog inputs. Main outputs L/R going to the respective speakers.

I found the correct term for what we are wondering if the digi 003 does. Zero Latency Analog monitoring. I know in PT LE 8 you can do low latency monitoring, but i'm talking about hardware monitoring so we can hear our gear without having to arm the track for record all the time. In Sonar, there isn't a low latency monitoring option so the latency is noticeable, even with low buffering. Any help is appreciated!

the term you're actually looking for is "does the 003 function as a stand-alone mixer"
the answer is no. The Digi 002 however did. Unfortunately when they upgraded to the new version they found that many consumers weren't using the standalone mode. So they scrapped it for other features. If you're looking for something like that, you might pick up a used 002 or get a small mixer/patch bay setup going.

Well darn it!!! That is horrible. Why would they take somethin like that away?

If your question hasn't gone over my head I think there is more to the answer. It seems to me that your saying it's only dedicated to your DAW's etc and you want it to also work with windows for other applications and internet sounds? Maybe that was what you were getting at, but it's worth posting that you can use the 003 with most other applications.. there is a program that makes it easy.. "digi mme helper".. It's as easy as dragging the .exe file for whatever you want to use it with i.e... IE, windows media.. etc.. into mme helper's interface window.. there are some programs that just don't mesh well.. i.e. quicktime... only other downside is that you can only use it with one program at a time..

And maybe I'm off again, but it seems to me you were looking to monitor your imputs without having record arm the tracks in some fashion not necessarily just using it as a stand alone mixer.. forgive me if you already know this.. but you can create aux tracks to monitor the inputs during song production without having to arm and record an aduio track. and then just route the aux to an audio track when you're ready to record..

also.. say you want to quick like play a guitar part without having to wait for PT to load and configure routing.. you can use other faster stand alone programs to just play your insturments.. for example.. when I'm trying to come up with something on the guitar that I want to put on a beat.. I'll just open waves gtr3 as a stand alone application and mess around until I come up with something I can use.. then I'll open my session.. I swear.. just waiting for pt to load sucks the creativity right out of me. Hope this was helpful. Best of luck to you.
