Digi 002 input level problem

Using TRS cable I have connected the balanced main outputs of my Carvin SM162 analog mixer to balanced line inputs on the Digi 002 (set to +4 dBu input level). If I set the fader on the Digi 002 input channel to unity I get this fluttering noise that builds quickly to clipping. This occurs even if the output level on the Carvin 162 is set to 0 (no signal)!

If I set the fader to (-5) I can prevent the noise and then record but my Carvin 162 has to be set to max output and even then the recording level is very low on the 002. Can someone tell me what is happening?

If I set the input level on the 002 to -10dBV the problem is the same only I can't raise the fader past -17 without the noise occurring. The Carvin 162 main outs work fine in any analog application.

Sounds to me like it's a feedback problem of some kind......

I'd check your routing to ensure you haven't got a feedback loop somewhere

so you have the mixer going to the 002 inputs 1-2?
what's the outputs of the 002 going to....your speakers or your Carvin mixer?

lThe mixer is input into the 002 inputs 5-6. But I had the same problem going into inputs 1-2 or 3-4. The 002 output is to powered monitors.
