Actually, they aren't Focusrite....only the Mbox has those. I'm not sure who made the Digi002 pres but they do not sound as good as the Mbox.

??? please do a test, and prove me, I don't believe shit that the MBox pre-amps are better.

I listened to them side-by-side and there was a difference to my ears. Call digidesign and ask them if the pres are the same...I assure you they are not.

If they were, Digi would definitely tout it in the 002 literature, just like the Mbox.

yeah, mbox is the only one that has focusrite. i think the ones that come with the 002 are made by Digi. it's no big deal though, if you don't like them, you just buy another preamp. mostly everyone does it to get the exact sound they want. this is the reason the HD units don't have preamps. because Digi found out people had different tastes in preamps so they let the consumer decide. If they wanted to throw a bunch of DMP3 in it or hook up an Amek console with Neve pres....it was up to the person buying it. You're not stuck with just one preamp.

PS. you all realize this post is from last december right?

Well what pres are they then?
Im intrigued....

You may very well be right that they are not Focusrite pres, thanks for the correction. I stand by my statement that they will work fine as basic channels, and when better outboard pres are added, they're still good enough to be used as auxiliary channels. In my case, mostly all they'll ever be used for is toms, highhat (if I even bother to mic it), and talkback. I don't do bands with huge numbers of simultaneous ins. I'm doing solo acoustic acts and a string quartet.
Also note that the channels with pres on an 002 (1-4) are the only ones with phantom power, bass cuts, and XLR ins.-Richie

P.S.- pres? Cheap and clean- M-Audio DMP-3, I consider it pretty compareable to the pres in the 002. Color? For cheap I like Joemeek. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet. I feed channels 5-8 with an Avalon AD2022 and a Joemeek twinQ, and I've finally arrived at sound quality I can live with. Woo Hoo!
