Digi 001 Preamp Question

Inputs 1 and 2 on a Digidesign Digi 001 box are mic preamps but also have a -26 DB button for line inputs. My question is, when the button is pushed, is the preamp bypassed completely or is there just some subtractive process initiated?

It's just a pad for the preamp, mic and line.
