Functionally obsessed.
I'm posting this here because I really only ever post in the Analog Only forum at Home Recording.

(And this has to do with analog synths... close enough, right? :) )

I've always wondered about the differences between all of the models of Vox organs. I love old Vox keyboards but I've never had the chance to compare them. I found a cool video on youtube which answered pretty much every question I had.

Check it out! It's a fun little video.

I am not hearing enough difference, in most cases, for it to matter. One of the double-rows has a slightly darker sound than the rest, but again, not enough diff. to matter.

I am not a keyboard player, but based on that comparison, I think I would choose one over the others based on features, voices, number of keys, price, etc.- anything but the very subtle (if at all) differences in tone. YMMV, I suppose.

Watching that video, it's obvious that he's not comparing Apples to Apples. Some of the organs have different tones, because they have different registrations on the draw bars. (i.e. some have all the drawbars pulled out, some have only every-other drawbar pulled out)

If the purpose of the video is to compare the tones of these organs as closely as possible, you would think that he'd at least attempt to match the drawbar registrations across the board. oh well. Cool to see.

I'm a Hammond fan, myself, used to have an old ebony Hammond M3 that had an upgraded upper manual with foldback, and with a home-brew 10" Leslie cabinet. I sold it to the music director for a Dallas, TX Biker Church. At least I know it's got a good home
