I've noticed the Audio Technica Pro 25 is discontinued and they now have the Pro 25ax, which is being discounted at many online sources right now.

Can anybody tell me what the difference is? And is there a real reason for the discounting?

The Pro 25 had an integrated mount, whereas the Pro 25ax has a separate mount. Other than that, is there a real difference?

Thanks,
Mark

Old thread, I know. But I can't seem to find anything about anyone even having tried the 25ax model. I just won one on ebay and it's should be here in a few days. I really wanted to get the regular pro 25 being that so many people think they are great, but for $25 how could I turn this one down.

I'll let you know how it sounds, but i can't do a comparison.

The following is an email I received from AT:

Mark,
There is the difference in the actual element as well as the mounting portion of the microphone. We were able to improve the lower-end response on the microphone over the older version. It has a bit more "punch" to it than the old one had. Other than that, it's basically the same. I hope this helps.

Hmmm, Has anyone actually used the 25ax yet? Does it sound any good? Comparable to the regular 25 in practice?
