I have developed a really bad static noise when I record tracks in Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, which completely ruins the track. It happens both when I use my MIDI Module & when I record with a mike. I am using an M-Audio Omni I/O with a Delta-66 card; & have all my settings in "Direct Show Audio" set per M-Audio's recommendations (in their Cakewalk "how to guide"), except for "Default Settings for New Projects", which is set to a bit depth of 16. I also use an EbTech Line Level Shifter (which is an impedance matching transformer that converts -10db to +4db) in line between my MIDI Module (Roland JV-1010) & the Mic/Line inputs on the Omni I/O (this eliminated all the preamp buzz I had previously.) I have my "Variable Signal Levels" set to +4db in the Delta Control Panel. The static noise occurs along with recorded signal only, almost like a type of distortion. Any ideas? Thanks.

The new or should I say recent Delta drivers are very bad to add static to your tracks. Try some older drivers. I use 4.1.21 and have had good luck so far, the new drivers are unusable for me. Here is a link to a Delta forum that is really helpful:

Possible Solution

Nerddogs,

In the back of the Delta-66 manual, there is a possible cause for a similar problem; & that is to mute the SP/DIF Input in the Monitor Mixer (if that input is active; & the Delta-66's master clock is not set to SP/DIF, corrupted samples can result during recording.) I've tried it (& have actually muted all inputs save for the ones I am using.) We'll have to see if that works. Thanks.
