Hey, I just got a sm 57 for christmas to record my guitar amp over some ezdrummer beats I made. But i dont think my current soundcard can take it cause it lags and jumps, and also out of time when recording. So i was looking into a delta 44 for its in/outs which would help me. Im interested in this card, but would it be good for what im doing?

Im using cubase to record also.

Well of course it would be good for what you are doing, anything is better that the stock soundcard and plus you have four ins and outs and better converters. go for it thats a good buy! ;)

I got the Delta 66 for Christmas last year, and it's great, its identical to the 44 just with SPDIF that I am never going to use.

Go for it.

i own a delta 44 and haven't really used it nearly as much as i should have but its a fairly good unit. it all depends on how many inputs you need. there's plenty of other options out there for the same price that come with built in pres which could save you money

What are the specs on your computer? And what sampling rate/bit depth are you recording at?

If you're getting a bunch of lag then I doubt it's the soundcard, although you'll have to upgrade the card eventually so you might as well get one.

Just be sure whatever card you get has ASIO and that you have it setup properly in Cubase.

Also, if you're running a drum MIDI file through EZDrummer, I would recommend rendering it as a WAV file before recording over it. That will free up some resources.

I have the Delta 44 on my second computer, pretty nice, it's an ok unit. Haven't really used it yet since I got my other setup. From what I hear though, good sound.

Assuming you also have a preamp for the mic you're talking about using, yes it would work fine. If you need a preamp also you may want to look into a different unit that includes one.

I am not in the habit of recommending things I do not own or have owned, but a buddy of mine asked me to help him pick an entry level device to do exactly what you are doing (plus record vocals) and he wound up with this one and really likes it.

In addition to being able to use your SM57 you will also be able to go direct and get access to some crazy pod like effects.
