Hi - I've just ordered an M-Audio Delto 44 sound card (with breakout box included). For many different reasons, I need to put my equipment rack the other side of the room from the computer, so I will need to put the breakout box included with the card with the rack as well.

I'd like to buy the leads to set everything up today, so I'm just totalling up exactly what I'll need - Would it it be possible to put the breakout box the other side of the room? What connecters are there between the breakout box & the delta card, and will I be able to extend them?

Thanks for any input!

Ah - I have found out what type of cable it is - 15-pin D-sub to 15-pin D-sub. So the real question now is, will it diminish the quality of the signal if this cable was extended to, say, 7 metres or perhaps even 10m?

The Delta 44 breakout box has an A/D converter in it I believe... I could be wrong, but assuming the signal coming out of it is digital, you could make the cable 1000 meters if you wanted to.

The AD converters are not in the box of the delta 44. Only the delta 1010.

Which means that the breakout box cable is essentially a snake. There's no reason you couldn't make a longer cable for it, but you do need to approach the job from the proper angle. In other words, don't aproach the problem with a printer cable.

No, you've found out what connectors it has on it, not what type of cable it is. If you get yourself a couple of db15 connectors and some good multi-pair audio cable, you can do what you want. Just keep in mind that using balanced connections will become much more important, as will maintaining an EMI friendly environment.

yes, your 15 pin cable connects your break-out box to your card....and you can use a longer cable
