decent AC Voltmeter (besides a 45 year old HP)?

Well (sweetbeats can fill you in on the backstory) I picked up an old HP VTVM on Ebay, (having bought and then quickly destroyed one when the handle broke....)

It looks really clean, but the fuse holder was busted and came apart when I pulled the fuse to check it out, and I've not a chance to fix that to fire it up. (Seller indicated it powered up, so it must have been near failuer.)

Anyway, the real question is, can a new decent voltmeter with an analog meter be found? other than searching for an old HP, (or Heathkit or what have you.)

Also, I came across a different RCA (with only one tube,,,), but the AC impedance was only 800k as opposed to the 10M or so on the HP's. I didn't pick that one up, opinions? That just seems barely high enough.

I picked that up at Radio Shack, just need to solder it in. The real question: is there anything similar new? (It's an academic discussion)

800k is more than high enough for any audio application I can think of? Having exactly 1meg in only becomes important if you are using a X10 scope probe. I know some meters ARE 10meg (our Leader 192A is one such, dunno why?)

You could look out for the Levell TM38 (aka TEG 0128) . I have just fixed up a couple. The PSUs were junk but 2 packs of 6 AA's works a treat and no bother with hum loops.

The Levell TG 200DM is a nice partnering oscillator.

Ah! Doh! Just thought. These meters were around in the days of valves when even a 1meg load would have given a small error in some circuits.
