yes
I'm thinking about making a warmoth Gibson. Can you buy the decals that they have to make it look real? thanks

why put the gibson name on it if its something that you're making yourself? why not respect it for whatever unique thing you make, and give it a name you make up yourself. just my opinion but if the guitar happens to turn out really well people will still think you're trying to rip off a gibson and won't realize how good the guitar is. I just can't understand why you'd want to do that, if a gibson is what you want just save up for a used one, but you wouldnt fool yourself or others with a warmoth that says gibson on it.

You can NOT get decals from any reputable dealer, and given (Gibson's CEO) Henry's penchant for litigation for the stupidest stuff, I am somewhat surprised that even disreputable dealers would sell them.

I mean, I have some, but no way in hell would I sell them to anyone unless I was doing a refinish on a Gibson. Same with the Fender and Epiphone decals I have (on their respective instruments, of course)

More to the point, as has already been said, why? It is dishonest, and it is not even going to improve your resale value as the instrument is too obviously not a Gibson. Respect what you are getting for itself, and use it as what it is.

selling a warmoth with a gibson logo is illegal, but i think claiming a warmoth as a gibson is still illegal. anyway if you want decals for it, check eBay, that's the only place I know where you can get decals for your guitar.....

Yes, it is illegal !!

You can make whatever decal you want by going down to an office supply place, get some decal stock and use your ink jet to create whatever decal you want.

Recently I went through something similar, I was (and still am) looking for decals of brand names, not to fool anyone but to put on cases. Partly for easy identification (my band has various guitars in identical cases) and partly because we are proud of our guitars and don't mind a little "name dropping." I had more trouble than expected, managed to find a few but it wasn't easy. I have to agree with the others who have said why would you want to put someone elses name on something you made? Why not design your own logo and print your decal(s) that way, even though you have a guitar which may look very much like another, it will be unique and be something you can be truly proud of. Not to mention, using your own name or logo would be 100% legal while using a registered name/trademark could get you into trouble. Unless you plan to show it to some real dummys, you aren't going to fool anyone anyway.

If you want a Gibson buy a Gibson. If you want to build a custom guitar, then build it.

I don't get all this attachment to a name brand when it comes to guitars. The only people who in the audience who can tell the difference between a $500.00 Epiphone Les Paul and a $3000.00 Gibson are musicians and chances are your not going to impress them anyway.

Now you can go out to a local craft store, buy some transperencies and ink pens, get in photo shop and print out your own head stock that would look like the real thing. But what's the point. If your going to impress musicians they're going to spot a fraud a mile away. This one guy did it with a home made strat, but when I got close enough to check out the headstock it said "Farter" not "Fender" Same font and everything.

In the 80's, some one was making guitar necks with a Jackson shaped headstock that said "Jackass" in the Jackson script on them.

In a related story...

Many years ago I went to see a pretty big (at the time) regional act, and the bass player was using an old blackface Fender Showman. When I got up close, I saw that he had replaced the Fender logos on the head and cabinet with chrome Chrysler logos; the size and slant of the script fit perfectly.

I've heard of people doing this to reduce the likelyhood of their gear being stolen.

Don't know if it might work.

I love it!

A buddy of mine in college modified his "Mesa/Boogie" to read "Mega/Booger." It looked perfect and most people couldn't tell the difference unless you pointed it out. Good, clean, subtle goofiness.

Hmmm....that sounds cool. How about the Strat-copy mutt that had a "Black & Decker" label attached?

I dont know i wanted to have a guitar that replicated a les paul jr but was much better than one.

Only if you sell it. If you are just doing it because you think it looks cool, and the guitar is just for your own use, it wouldn't be illegal. I'm not sure why you'd do that though.

Is a Warmoth kit guitar really "much better" than a genuine Gibson Les Paul Jr.? I've never played a Warmoth, but I've played some great Juniors. It's kinda hard to believe that a kit guitar would be a better axe, not to mention significantly so.

it wont sound anything like a les paul junior, the les paul sound is a set neck, a bolt on with humbuckers can't do it. not that the bolt on sound is bad, i personally like it, but do I think it sounds like a les paul? no. If a les paul is what you want to get then just get that and then customize it.
