Chadsxe has some awesome death/grind stuff he's recorded. Sounds great...check it out.

Hey cellardweller,

What are you trying to say? Is it good or bad?

Hey Adam P, where can I find some of his music? Got any links? Thanks...

for the money, it will get the job done for you.

Would you sugest something better for under $100? Please remember I am only recording one thing at a time and in my home/apartment. I am also recording death metal if that metters. Thanks...

Search for DMP3 here, you'll find tons of threads about it.
It is THE bang for the buck 2 channel mic preamp.

Personally I have no basis for comparison, except for my Mackie 808m (PA) which I used to use for a mic pre for recording. The DMP3 was a noticable improvement over this  :D

FWIW~I've heard many people talk badly of the quality of Behringer gear.
No experience with any myself....

I agree but I think he is looking for under $100. I guess if you wanna look at Ebay or something you might score one for less.

I use a Behri mixer. Reason? I got it for free and it works really well for what I do. I would love to upgrade but with three kids and all, I do what I can with what I have. :)

Death Metalllllllllllllll!

ANyone here recording Death Metal at home? I am new to home recording and would love to find some other to talk to about it. Thanks.

Hi dudes,

I love Death Metal. I'm currently working on a big experimental death metal project as we speak (since 2 years now). It's basicaly just one song with a running time of 45 minutes and up. I'm not at the mixing stage at the moment so I won't post it now, but I plan to open a thread here once the tracking is finished in hope to get some advices with my mix.

It can be very difficult to record a good quality death metal.
I guess it all depends of your standards. Nowadays Death Metal bands bare some of the best production ever (Opeth, Kataklysm, Decapitated, Misery Index, Dying Fetus etc...)

My only advice would be to be very carefull with the drums programming since Death Metal is mostly about good drumming. Personnaly I bought the BFD plugin in Sonar 4, combined with my drummer with his triggers and we get the drum sound we were dreaming of. I didn't tryed DFH since I'm more than happy with BFD.

Is the DFHS a drum machine program/software or is it just drum samples that can be added to drum machine software for different sounds?

I will try to post my old band next week. It is bad death metal recorded badly!

I found it online actually tonight but it is $.15 per song to download. hhmmm, I wonder who is getting that money. I know it ain't us!!!

It would be great if you got a thread going. A cool thread for Death Metal and all of it home recording needs. I am sure I will be asking you some questions.

DFHS is not a drum "machine". That seems to imply hardware.
It is a library of samples (85,000 of them) and a sampler program to play them which is triggered by a MIDI track in your host software.

As far as pres/mixers go....if you're only recording one instrument at a time you don't really need a mixer. You might wish you had one down the road, but you won't regret buying a stand alone preamp at this stage either. I would however invest in a 2 channel pre-amp just so you have the option to record a guitar with two mics. Cellardweller is right about the DMP-3. I did notice an improvement in my mixes after I started using one over my Mackie mixer's pres. It is a better choice. I have since upgraded to an FMR Audio RNP (about 500 bucks). It is also a noticable improvement but for just guitar tracks and some vocals I would venture to say the DMP-3 would sound just as good to you.

As far as mics go, just get an SM57. I wouldn't even consider that 19 dollar Behringer....

You've gotta understand that a 159 dollar 2 channel pre and a 89 dollar mic are extremely cheap in the realm of home recording. You've gotta step up sooner or later. ;)

And as far as bass goes, just record that direct with your mic pre. No fuss.

EDIT: Sorry...I just saw the thread where you said you ordered all the Behri stuff.... :D .....i was too late! :p

The mixer I bought has two channels so I can record guitars using two mics as well. It has a built in pre-amp, what would a stand alone pre-amp do for me?

Please rememer that I am brand new to all this home recording. I live in an apartment and want to record Death Metal. I am not looking to sound like Nile or Behemoth. I jsut want a respectable sound that I could use for a good demo.

How did you EQ the drums to the song you did? Did you use compression and or reverb? I would like to work with the drum machine software I have to get as close to your drum sound as I can get. Yes, I want to steal your drum sound.
