Hey Guys,
this one is fresh out of the oven, so there's still some work to be done, it's definitely not the final mix. I'd like to hear from you what needs to be fixed or changed. I'm thinking of adding some wah lead parts here and there and I'm not sure about the shouting vocals at the end. But I'll wait for your comments....

Thanx and cheers
Joe :)

Joe--

This sounds pretty good to me. I think maybe the drums dominate a little--I find myself "listening hard' for the vox--they should be up a bit, especially when it's just one voice; the group parts seem about right.

I could also use a touch more bass--but now we're getting subjective taste preferences. I like the breakdown starting at about 3:40--sounds real nice, man.

As far as your open issues--I'd say you should try that wah lead--might work. And the yelling? Oh yeah, leave it!

Great work man!

Hey Bob!
Yeah that's what I meant when I said it still needs work. Voice in the verses is too low. I'll check the bass too. Thanx for your help!

I really like this one mate. I tend to disagree with WhiteStrat a little, I think it's the hard right guitar that's competing with your vocals(not the drums) and I think lowering this a little, would do the trick. Though I do agree...leave the screaming in...it makes the finish. Great work...thanks for sharing.

Mart.

Verse vocals can be a little louder, but don't drop the drums. They drive this song. Bass seems fine to me. The bass and kick have nice seperation and hold down the bottom end well. I don't know about wah solos or anything. That's up to you. My only nit so far are the cymbals - particularly the crashes happening all over the place. They're very tinny and sizzly. Like glass breaking. They lack the full midrange that a good cymbal crash has. I don't know how you'd fix this with samples, but that's what I hear. Good job though for a first mix.

Thanx Mart!
That hard right guitar in the verse has a flanger on it and it might be making everything a bit muddy. I do like to put the drums pretty much in front in my mixes. Thanx for listening in!

Sounds good. I don't know, after listening a couple of times, the vocals sit well in the mix. I'm not hearing much of anything that needs fixing.

Kick ass song, Joey!!!

My 1st response is that the drums are too up front.
I like the vocal level against the other gear however.
Another good song and performances.
You're rather good at this stuff!

The vocals are good and they should come up some. To me the snare is too busy. For a down tempo tune like this I'd prefer to hear a solid groove through the verses and then let go with the busy stuff in the chorus. But hey, opinions are like buttholes, we've all got one :D Good tune man

I was actually thinking of changing the cymbal samples, Greg, 'cos they really sound very thin, like you say. What do you think of the hihat, should I change that too? Appreciate your opinion, bro!

Thanx Dave!
I'm just taking notes right now.....:D

Greg won't like that Ray...:D
Just kidding, I'll be checking all the levels again, especially when I've let it lie for a couple of days. This mix was practically immediately after I finished recording, so it's still a rough thing. Thanx for listening, mate!

I think the drummer should drink less coffee.....:D
I'll consider the snare in the next mix. Appreciate your opinion!

The instrumentation is fabulous throughout this song. The guitars just sing here. I find the drums a little hot - especially when there's less going on in the background. Vocals are outstanding as always! I don't think you need a lot more work on this mix - pretty good so far...

Thanx, Gerry!
With every song I record I feel I'm getting closer to the guitar sound I'm looking for. Funny thing is, I do a lot less to it now than I used to do before. I just stick an Sm57 in front of the amp and after it's recorded I tweak a little with the EQ. I'm also trying hard to weld the guitars and the bass together soundwise and try to get them to occupy their own frequency. Thanx for the nice words!

Trying to eq bass is my downfall...I struggle with it....

I got myself the Sansamp Bass Driver DI lately and I really like it. I also use it with the paralell output and record my cab at the same time so I can blend the 2 sounds trogether. But it's great on its own too. I always activate the guitar and bass tracks by themselves and then Eq the bass.

Yo Joey!

Damn dude...I gotta think this is my favorite one from you so far. ;)

My thoughts are that it don't need much. I like the level of the drums and bass. Maybe up just a skosh on the vox during the verses but overall...I really like this.

Beer n cheese is on me pal. :D
