De-essing

I am using JS De-esser in Reaper. I have it set up as shown in the picture below. When in "Monitor" mode it plays any sounds in a given frequency range. I have significant "S's" in my recording. When I, when using Monitor mode, move through the frequencies, the "S's" are still heard quite loudly over a very wide frequency range. Problem is, how do I reduce the "S's" without reducing the total vocal over a wide frequency range. Many thanks, Brian

You raise the frequency - ‘Ss’ happen around 4800K to 8500K - you have to experiment with where your ’Ss’ are occuring at.

This my first time trying to de-ess. I am using a narrow bandwidth (as can be seen from the screenshot). I will, of course, keep on trying - just that my first efforts have not been very promising !! Thanks for your reply. Brian

Sometimes, you need two processes - so the gappy tooth de-ess, then the annoying whistle in a separate pass. Almost always it is a compromise between the annoying sibilance and the annoying dullness removing the sssss noises causes!
