Hi All -

I just bought a dbx286a to use with a Neumann 103 mic.

I've got the dbx plugged directly into the sound card of an older HP desktop.

Thing is...I'm getting a tremendous noise floor (hiss) on my recordings into Adobe Audition.

Could using a stereo TRS cable cause this?

Anyone have any ideas?

Have been perusing this board for a while...great stuff.

Thanks so much.

Can anyone help on this?

Any likely issues...sound card, etc.?

It's probably your sound card, not your preamp. Those built-in sound cards aren't really meant to handle any sort of "high-quality" music by any stretch of the imagination. Do you have an external Sound card, like a Firebox or a MOTU traveler or an M-Box or anything? If not, I'd HIGHLY recommend getting one!
