What's your favorite most useful plugins that you added to your DAW program?

That's kind of like asking, "What's your favorite disease to contract?" I much prefer to no use anything at all ;).

But when I do need to process any of my tracks for whatever reason, my go-to-plugs include the entire suite from RNDigital, and to see what's going on, SPAN from Voxengo. It's also real nice to have EssEQ from Voxengo and Blockfish from Digital FishPhones in my pocket.

Hey...whatever became of RNDigital? Seems like the Roger Nichols company just came to an abrutput stop over some dispute with one of the other partners of RNDigital, back in 2008...and since then, nothing. The site is dead.

I always liked reading RN's back page in EQ magazine when he was writting for them...and for awhile there he hosted a forum for that same magazine group...but then one day quit back in the mid-00s...and right after that he started RNDigital.

Anyway...I'm not a big plug user, as I do mostly OTB when I mix out of the DAW...but there are some nice onboard plugs the come with Samplitude, then I have some Sony offerings that came with Sound Forge, and I'll use them sparingly for "spot" fixes...and that's kinda it. I like the Waves mastering limiter and EQ.

You know as much as I do. There is plenty of talk about it on the web, including some explanations from the principles themselves, but figuring out which parts on which sides of the story are accurate is tough.

I believe the software can still be had out of the stockrooms of places like Sweetwater, but I'm not sure.

Just for the record, I actually use the stuff that was originally branded under the Elemental Audio name, before RN bought them out and re-branded them under his own name, but the core code and basic layout is all pretty much the same. RN has added some improvements in their latest versions, but that's mostly bells-and whistles stuff.

I've heard Waves mentioned alot, I'm going to look into it just out of curiosity

You know, I'm still trying to work that one out ! Especially as Glen went on to answer the question.
Be satisfied in the knowledge that there are just some things in life that we'll never know ! :D

lol, I know that just first thing I quoted,

UAD plugins....just frees up so much cpu and they pack a punch...love them

OK, maybe I might have over-stated a bit, but for me, my favorite plug is no plug at all.

Using a plug on a track is for me something to be avoided, when possible, not entirely unlike catching a cold or anthrax should be avoided when possible.

Light compression/EQ.

other than that, tape delay.

I used a Tube saturation plug-in that was awesome...but it bent my cpu over and raped it beyond belief. :(

I spent the 80s and 90s avoiding Anthrax. Never liked their music. :D
:) Very true. And that makes me wonder...

Are there any bands out there called "The Common Cold" or "The Head Cold"? I kinda like that first name ;)

I use Sonar and they have the Vintage channel VC-64. Took me a while to warm up to it, but now I love this thing especially on my vocals. Also acoustic guitar.

Here is how Cakewalk describes it:
"The VC-64 Vintage Channel is a channel strip, dynamics processor, EQ, and De-Esser that's been called "the magic bullet for your tracks" by many engineers. It includes presets designed by professionals and can be side-chained."

VC64.webp

It's a magic bullet so hell it fixes everything. Sometimes I insert it twice on the same track to make it twice as good!:D

This. Love my UAD plugs, but then again, they are my first (and only) pro plugs I have.

yup, I dont like the reverbs though, maybe its too in depth, maybe i dont care about building rooms so Ive got a TC card on the way, the free M30 is a great plugin...even though UAD is kind off geared towards the vintage I love it on synth sounds and drums...the pultec pro and fairchild sound great on vintage synth patches and the 1176ln is great on electronic drums...really lets me fatten the kick up like no other

Im not going to mention the moog filter though...its a secret ;)

That's SSG being his usual pompous, holier-than-thou self. He can't help it.

I like the Antress Modern series stuff.
Blockfish
Kjaerhus classic delay
Reaper has a few nice stock plugs like ReaEQ and Reaverb (convolution reverb)
Density MKII

Nothing fancy
