I have a question. A friend is sending me some stems to mix to be recorded to a ADAT recorder. What interface can I get to output 8 tracks to a mixer and also has light pipe ?

Depending how the ADAT works, might be easier to 1, play each track or two, transfer all of the track files to the ADAT. Render out each track, copy files over to ADAT. You don't really need to have a multi-output.

This assumes what you are asking is as straight forward as in my head.

ADAT ins and outs tend to only appear on either very expensive, or multi-channel interfaces. Assuming you want to not break the bank for one project - then focusrite scralett 18i20 or the Behringer UMC 1820 - I've actually got two of those and I quite like them!

Thanks for the reply. I want to have a interface with 8 analog outputs Because I can use it for other things. I would like one with a optical output. I kind of float between digital and analog recording. I have never transferred tracks to a outside device. Also I'm a old dog (73) trying to learn new tricks...lol.

UMC1820 is affordable and works like a charm.

I actually run 2 and an ada8200 for my FX gear.

Thanks for the advice Frank. I have looked at that unit. A question. So I could run 8 inputs to my DAW that would be on 8 individual tracks. And also 8 tracks from my DAW to a mixer. Is this correct? Like I said old dog learning new tricks. lol

Buy a PC ADAT adapter such as: https://serverorbit.com/mellanox-mcx621202ac-adat-dual-port-25gbe-sfp28-pcie-adapter-card/

Then connect a Behringer ADA8200 to it, to get 8 outputs and 8 inputs.

I would recommend just getting the umc1820
It's compatible with more systems including laptops (my studio runs on a MBP m4pro for example.

Also the UMC1820 has besides the analogue inputs als the monitor function, midi, spdif and the adat expension

The UMC1820 brand new is 159 euros. Just like the ada8200 so it would not make sense to get a PC card and connect a ada8200 unless i miss something

For the TS
Yes you get all the ins and outs including one digital (besides the adat) for me i run the lexicon and gmajor on the digital connections.

When i started i used an analogue console with 8 in/outs but only 2 on usb. With the UMC i could see all the in/outs in logic.

With an aggregate device you can create one large pool of interfaces. Just make sure to select one masterclock and use drift correction on the others.

Super simple but very powerful
