I currently use a Yamaha O1V as a control surface for Nuendo. But it only allows control of 14 channels and a master.
I need control of 24 channels.

I can really make the O1V fly as a control surface, I've used it a lot, and I'm used to it.
So I could either get another O1V and "piggy-back" it onto the one I have, OR, I could get an honest to goodness control surface such as the Mackie control surface. Of course, I'd have to get its 2 extenders to have control of 24 channels.

Being as I don't use the pres or effects in the O1V, it is strictly a control surface to me. I've heard that the O1V's fader resolution is less than ideal for use as a serious mixing tool.

I'm about ready to hock the O1V and go with the mackie, but I wanted some input first.

I don't like the SAC2 Radikal, or the Houston, so.... no need to offer up those.
I'll either end up building a custom console, or cave in and just buy one from Argosy. I believe they have a console that's custom made for the mackie controller.

I'm a member on that forum, but there seems to be little in the way of discussion on control surfaces there.

A few people talk about the ID:

But at $20K, its out of my league. Plus, I think you'd be better off with a DMX R100 for that kind of money.

Thanks, though.

Michael first, forgive my poor english.
I'm also a nuendo user, with the MCU. As a surface controller, putting aside the ID, wich doesn't ever seem to be ready for the market, and obiously outrageously expensive, I don't think there's a better controller that the MCU + extenders. The level of integration with nuendo is very nice. Beign an ex PT user, I won't say its a control 24, build wise, but its still a very nice controller, worth the buck. Just be aware that nuendo currently doesn't support the XT units, altough this might be changing soon, because of lots of nuendo users (incluiding myself ;) ) were bangin' steinberg for this. Supposedly this will be addressed soon, prolly this very month.
Also, you might just hang a bit in there, as tascam also will be having an offer of their own. It will do MCU emulation, prolly with less features as the MCU, but with 24 faders in a single unit. I think the price/value will be pretty competitive. Check tascam's website. I believe this unit was introduced at NAMM.

"...Just be aware that nuendo currently doesn't support the XT units..."

What do you mean by the XT units?
The extenders?

This unit is really great, the best thing about it is that it is the most straight forward unit I've ever seen. It's clean and it's functions are simply laid out in an operator oriented design. They've also just released new updates for Nuendo 2...

Later,
