Hello everyone....please i need some help..

DAV BG1U ...This is a very nice clean preamp...but when i tried to record an acoustic guitar through the DI front input,i notice HUM....

YES..i did all the tests with cables, units, speakers, other guitar....the problem is only when i use the DI davs input...
Can i solve this grounding low frequency hum, without using any noise or hum eliminator?
Thanks a lot
bye

Is it the Guitar or cable picking up mains RF or the computer screen, does the noise change when you move the guitar around? or move the guitar cable around?

Cheers

Alan.

no its still there..but when i touch anything metalic as the units screw or the cable's jacks,it doesn't exists

I think it's still an RF issue, the grounding in this case is the grounding you create when touching the jack plug or metallic objects, but it could also be a mains earth issue.

Audio earth issues:
Does the noise go away when you touch the strings? If not it could be that the strings are not earthed (audio earth) to the shield of the guitar cable.
Do you have this noise when using the guitar in a different location.

I used to have a studio next to a phone exchange, the phone exchange created RF that was transmitted down the mains cables. I always had trouble with single pole pickups and some guitar rigs. One whey I eliminated the problem was to have a small earth cable with a clip on one end and a metal plate on the other. When the guitar was noisy I would clip the cable onto the guitar string (below the bridge not the playing side) and have the player slip the metal plate between his / her belt so that the plate was touching their skin, this maintained an audio earth or RF grounding when they took their hands off the strings.

Mains earth issues:
Now onto mains ground issues, is the power point that the gear is plugged into earthed? Just because there is a pin on the power point this does not mean that the earth is connected. Using an unearthed powerpoint can cause a whole lot of audio noise problems. What happens if you plug the gear into a different power point?

Cheers

thank you guys.....i will try today to do the ''string test''....and change location of playing......
THANKS AGAIN

i finally managed to find the source of the problem..
i put the guitar to another amplifier to other room ...no noise
..i plugged the same amp to the home studio's room...noise...to every plug in this room...
so......what should i do now?

Have an electrician check for a ground going to recepticals in your bad room. If the breaker panel is labled he should be able to trace that particular power cord and see if it is grounded on that end. IF that looks good I would check at each reciptical.

I have a phrase I put together of remembering which terminal on a receptical is hot......."Brass Will Bite Your Ass". But to be safe I would call an electrician if you are not knowledgable about electricity.

ok..i brought an electrician friend ...we found only 1 socket in the room which is ok(grounded)...the hum dissapeared
thanks a lot my friend GCAPEL and everyone...

no problem, glad to see you found yout problem.

The internet is great!
