Cubase no sound only on playback, monitoring is audible.

I wouldn't call myself a 'newbie' to the production realm, but i am a newbie to Cubase. i set up my Firestudio Tube to run in and then out through the headphone jack. when i monitor a track, it is perfectly fine, and i get excited, only it is in vain. :facepalm:
when i clicked record, i see the meter for the click moving, but absolutely no sound. the recording is fine, i can hear it, (minus the click) but the playback is not audible. i can see waveforms, but no playback. thoughts? :confused:
 
did you disable direct monitoring when you tried to play it back? the little speaker-looking button?
 
erm.. no. well goodness, that was easy! thank you so very much. that fixes the playback, but the click is still not present.

No prob dude :) I made the same mistake myself when I first started out!

Hmmm well usually the click is pretty simple to set up. Do you have it set to "Click On"? It's kind of a small button right beside the numbers that show the minutes/seconds of the song.
 
Yeah, the click track in Cubase is not actually recorded to a track. It is enabled via the 'Transport' panel, just next to the counter like G stated. You also change the BPM from the transport. Took me a while to get a hold on the way Cubase works as well. Once you get it, complete nirvana! lol! Well, it just gets easier to grasp anyway. :D

Yeah definitely! It was quite frustrating to figure out when I was just starting....lol. It was without a doubt the biggest turnoff for recording personally. But then I slowly got used to it! Still no nirvana yet though!! :D
 
No nirvana yet? lol! Yeah, me too, though shit is easy now for me. I tried Reaper, and it really pissed me off! lol :D

Haha I took a look at Reaper once, had some terrible flashbacks from Cubase when I was just starting out, thought "Heck no!" and have never looked back since! :laughings:
 
Yes I do believe the click is switched 'on' in the transport. I always have the precount going as well. When I control click the click it gives me some options, like midi out ect. Could it be in there?
 
I'm going to guess it has more to do with the Presonus Universal Control thing. In order to hear the click from Cubase, you need to be monitoring through Cubase (playback from computer). I can't even guess how to do that with your interface. Look into that. :)
 
I am so stumped. the meter that shows the click will only move when it is on (in the metronome setup) "Tube MIDI" for MIDI port and channel. If i change it to "Not Connected" obviously nothing happens i just don't understand why the click just will not play with the audio.
 
Ahh eureka! Basically it was a stupid problem. In the VST connections, when you are in the output section, under the "click" section, for each output all i had to do was to click in the "click" section to turn on the metronome. Hopefully this can help someone else. Cheers.

same problem only still not working

hi people.
