cubase manual is not helping..please give me a hand

I have a problem activating more then 1 port to record at a time. When I set multiple channels to record and then press record cubase is de-activating all but the first channel and recording on it only


What do I need to do at this point is dump 16 tracks of adat into cubase via my motu 2408mkII system. Can anyone help me out here?

also I wonder if there is a better way to transfer these files into cubase or is this the right way..

you've probaply already checked this, but it's yhe only thing I can think of.
have you checked adio>inputs ???

that would be the SVT inputs screen? yes I checked all of those green 'lights' to activate all inputs.
 
I do not know how you dump adat information into cubase, other than converting the files as .wav(pc) or .aiff(mac) previous to the dump into cubase. If there is a way to do this conversion ( i know there is a prog for alesis adat that does this) before you import into cubase, I think that maybe you should try that. I would think that if there is a program for converting adat info to your computer that motu supports, the conversion would be cleaner than re-recording directly into cubase.

Importing .wav or .aiff or .mp3 after that is easy. Use import Audio Files under the file menu in cubase. you have to do it one track at a time, but it works just fine.

Now setting up multitracks in cubase should be fairly straight forward & depends on how many tracks your ADAT will allow you to record at one time (u can record up to 24 yes? )
On my PC version of cubase 5, here are the steps.

Under panels > vst inputs select the the inputs you will be using (in your case select 1 thru 16)

in the Audio inspector, assign each track to a vst input (1-16).

Enable all tracks in the audio inspector, press record & bombs away.

This should set you up for simultaneous multitrack recording,

I have two suggestions--1)clk Options, clk Multi-record, clk Merge, then go back and make sure Multi-record has a check mark by Active...then bring up the wizard and clk on a track or stereo pair, clk on the mixer, hold "control" and clk on the white IN 1 L above a channel on the mixer which will bring up one or more channels for you to assign the highlighted track(s) to...select whichever channel you want to route the track(s) to and bam you've now assigned a track(s) to a channel or pair of channels...repeat for each of the tracks you want to record....
or 2) record all your tracks as WAV files in Windows Media Player, then close...start CuBase, clk File, clk New Song, name it and so forth...then clk File, clk Import, clk Audio File, select WAV. files or Any. file in the "Type of Files" space, then browse/locate your saved WAV. files, highlight them and clk Open....CuBase should import them into your New Song and automatically assign them to their own tracks...this way you don't have to use CuBase to "record" them.....hope this helps...later.
 
yes that 'MULTI RECORD' option was the key! I figured that out last night around 12:00a.. ha!

NOW though whenever I record the computer stutters through as if it cant process all the data. I thought maybe I didnt have enough cpu power so I tried it again with just one track, disabled all but one of the VST inputs, but got the same result. What could this be?

I have a PIII 500 w/ 500+ mb of ram and a I am attempting to record to a secondary dedicated IBM 7200 RPM IDE harddrive.

Once I get this figured out I should be ready for primetime..

help me out here cause I'm not very familiar with ADAT...I assume your ADAT connection to the motu is via the optical-"lightpipe"...I also assume that you have visited the MOTU 2408mkII Console software and applied the format to reflect the physical connections that you have made...if not, do so...verify these settings in CuBase by going to Options, then Audio System Setup..."MOTU 2408mkII" should appear in the menu next to ASIO Device...clk on it and make sure "ADAT" appears next to Optical Input...also, in this same window, choose the correct setting for your Clock Source--it should not be set to "Internal" for digital transfers via S/PDIF...perhaps you have already done all of this, but, you didn't mention it....hope this helps....let us know...later

i am gong to try this.. another thing I am going to try adjusting the slot my motu card is in. right now it is in the next available slot next to the agp video card. not actually the next one casue that one is shared with the agp card or rather thry both fill the same vertical real estate.

either way I will try your clockign suggestion and will also move the card and re-install the software just in case.
