Cubase 5 cutting out during playback

I've been having an issue with this for live settings. Basically I'm running Cubase 5 on a laptop with a Presonus VSL44. I use this live so I can play 4 separate tracks simultaneously. It all runs fine, but there will be moments while playing that all the audio cuts out. The song doesn't freeze, it continues playing but you just can't hear the audio for anywhere from 3 to 15 seconds(on average) and then it cuts back in. All 4 tracks were exported MP3's with their effects already set. So there are no VST plugins running while playback.

I've read that this is a buffer issue, however I can't find how to set it(or what it should be set to). I'm also assuming the settings will have to be set under the driver I use(which is the AudioBox Asio Driver).

Is this a buffer size issue? Are there other settings that could possibly be causing this? Thanks.

I'm not sure how your unit works, but typically it is done in the VST Audio System section of Cubase.

Try this:

In Cubase, Devices>Device Setup...>VST Audio System. Actually if your AudioBox is already selected there you should have it listed the line under it in the menu at the left. Click on that and see if it gives you a 'Control Panel'. This is where I change the buffer settings for my interfaces.

Thanks, that helped! However, for some reason whenever I click on the control panel it doesn't do anything.

Check to be sure you have the latest driver for the AudioBox.

I have had an interface that did not work that way in Cubase. I had to change buffer settings from the program in Windows. I looked at the PDF manual for the AudioBox, but it had nothing to say about buffer setting adjustments, so I assume it should be where I directed you.

Hmm..

Hmm..

The updated Audiobox driver interface doesn't allow the buffer to to be set from the DAW any longer, you have to do into the icon for the audiobox and set it there. The DAW will pick it up real time. This happened seems like with the last driver update.

There ya go. Thanks DM60.

Thanks guys, that makes sense.

Not only does the control panel button within Cubase not work, but I can't seem to open the Audiobox software, I click it and nothing happens. I just installed it about 2 weeks ago.

Did that too. Crazy thing!
You should see the icon in the task bar, click on it and it will bring up the sample and buffer rate. It should be version 1.57.0.5385 that is the one I have been using for about 2-3 months and it is pretty stable.
